bike modding...

Post by match417 »

so, my thermostat locked up, overheated my bike, and somehow my chain stretched from getting too hot, so i'm getting a 520. So my bike is down for a bit, and i figured while it was down, i would upgrade some other things that I have been meaning to do. I'm selling my carbs, I have them listed in the classifieds on here and I'm getting yzf600 carbs, then I can use the yzf600 switches instead of using my yzf600 left switch and then trying to find a 03 - 05 right switch. For the front fairing I'm using a 98 R1 to mate up to the side fairings, I've seen it done before and it mates up nicely. I'm currently putting on the 04 R6 tail, but I really need a yzf600 tank. Me and my friend have been talking about pulling off the swingarm then cutting and welding it for a wider tire. After all the stuff is on, i'm painting it black, putting red pinstripe on the tires and red vinyl and making it a Raven edition FZR/R1/R6/YZF600..lol..i'm not really sure what i'm going to call it when its done. But it will look nice.

I'm interested to see the carb swap. Aren't the intake ports on the YZF600 head a different shape than the FZR? If you can make the work that will open up another door for modding the FZR. Also, you don't really HAVE to cut and reweld the YZF swingarm (unless you want to) to fit a wider wheel. With some spacers, the R6 wheel will fit right in. Here's ABS's thread on that.

HAD a CBR tail. The tail and all of the brackets are boxed up and are being shipped to a guy that bought it. I like the look of the R6 tail better, and a girl can't ride on the back with the CBR tail as it was unless she hugs me and tries to share my seat, and that gets uncomfortable after about 15 minutes. Link to the entire tail conversion is here http://bobblebob.com/projectsfzr.html

well, i'll make it work, lol..there's no doubt in my mind. If I have to make something to make them fit then i will. Plus, i'm borrowing my friends yzf600 for right now, i'll probably pull the tank off to look at some stuff tomorrow.

The tank swap is pretty easy. Let me know if you need any help.

yeah, it seems really easy, i've been looking at my friends yzf600 since he's letting me borrow it..the little bracket on the front of the tank that bolts directly to the frame looks like it would bolt directly to the frame on the FZR where the back half of the headlight frame bolts in under the tank cover. Does it? I'll try it next week, but i'd just like to know if it does, i took off that bracket anyway. I have noticed that my R6 seat doesn't wrap around the yzf600 tank like it does the R6 tank. I have an R6 tank that isn't being used, it's too narrow and it kindof works, but the yzf600 looks like it would fit better.

here is a pic of the R1 front fairing on the FZR, it isn't mine, it's a pic that was sent to me, my guess is that it's a 98 or 99 front, but I don't know for sure. The guy that owns it lives in Venezuela or something. It's sick. The only problem i have with doing this swap is I have this thing about being unique and not copying anyone (example: my cbr tail on the FZR), but this front end is just too sick to not put on. This is also the same reason I'm putting the 03 - 05 tail on mine, i havent seen anyone with that tail on an FZR. It's something I have to get over...

and as far as putting the yzf600 carbs on, i'm hoping its as easy as slipping the carbs into the little rubber manifolds, if not, then i'm hoping i can just put the manifolds from the yzf600 on the fzr head..they changed a few things with the head, but hopefully they kept that the same. either way, i'll see when i take both bikes apart this week.

edit: oh, and the bottom of the carbs on teh yzf600 are round and are still the same shape, but i think they are a bit larger..i'll mic stuff this week if I can fit my mic in there.

HOLY CRAP!
Thats the best looking FZR iv seen!
shit. find out what year that front is and let me know.
I also like the tail on that bike, is it a r6 tail?
god I need to do a swing arm swap. but I dont have metal grinding tools or anything. and I dont have the time. My bike IS my transportation. so until I get another source, I cant do serious work on my bike.
but hopefully that r1 front is only a one day task to install.

I think the Airtech tail that I have on my bike was modeled after the 1999 R1's tail...
and notice what that guy with the R1 front on his FZR is missing. The tank on the FZR looks to big. notice how there is a strip that goes along the bottom of the tank. after I do my tank conversion, Ill be fiberglassing something like that
