plugs fouled out again...engine rebuild or new bike

Post by ian »

Hey guys, yesterday my plugs fouled out again (twice in 2 days) meaning my rings are past the point of no return. I'm looking at either getting my rings done or buying a new bike and I'm trying to figure out which one to do. It wouldn't be financially sound to keep putting money into the bike, but I don't know how I'd afford another bike. What do you guys think?

***On a lighter note, I met another one of our family members today at work. He might be coming over later for me to help him put on his new speedo cable. I'll point him to the forums when he does.

You might want to just put some rings in there and call it a day. Rings, head gasket and some time. Thats it! You can do it.

I don't have tools anymore though...I'd have to have one of the techs at work do it on their weekend, and I'd still wanna pay them their hourly pay rate...

I don't know about you but if it is all the same just replace the gaskets and keep on trucking. The way I see it, bikes are just a fun transportation. Its always cheaper to just fix a good bike than to purchase a new one and pay full coverage insurance.

Do the math figure out what you are saving on insurance, then look at what a monthly payment would run on the new bike then make a decision.

The best car or bike is one that's paid for!

I certainly wouldn't buy a brand-spanking-new bike, but I would get a newer bike, one with less miles and less years...I'm looking around right now, weighing my options.

Just fix it for now and save for a newer one.

get the bike running, sell it, then buy a new one.
