I have been searching for a while on both forums and have no answer.....

If I wish to raise the rear ride height and put in the '06 R6 shock I just bought, can I get away with NOT putting in longer dog bones? What is the effect of raising the rear? I am a hobbiest and not a corner thrasher, although I do ride hard in the corners occasionally, thus the reason I am putting in the R6 shock.

If it is recommended that the dog bones be changed can I use the ones from "linksforu" (3 lower holes, one upper hole in stainless)?

theres a guy in this forum that used an r6 shock. he had to weld up his own mount and relocate his battery to the very back.

The 06 R6 shock is supposed to be painless, a couple of spacers and some grinding of the bottom mount hole. The post states that the dogbones were made longer, that is where the question is????

he did a swingarm swap with it too. so I dont know if the height of the shock will be affected with the fzr swingarm

I also did the mod.I dident have to weld the mount or do anything with the battery.Since I just moved to a state with lack of curves im not bothering with the dog bones for now.I just dropped the front about a half inch to make up the differance

NO longer bones lower rear end , short bones and your tail is stickin in the air ..like it dont care ..

Shorter bones raise it and longer bones lower it. Since there is a fulcrum it's the opposite of what is typical. Plus, most people ended up raising the rear after the shock swap to put it back to stock height. It's a bit lower and a softer spring so it needs to be raised or the res will hit the swingarm on simple bumps.

Is there an easy solution? I do not have a way to make my own, and lowering the rear is not gonna be a good thing.

Nope, those wouldn't help you at all. Haunter had some bones to raise the rear. He might still have a set. Otherwise I can make you a set but you'll have to give me some time. Super swamped at the moment.

i get a feeling you're around 200 pounds no ? i get a feeling spending money on an R6 shock is going to be a big disappointment for you perhaps.

Unfortunately a good new Penske 8100 series shock w/ reservior and lots of adjustability is close to $800, but the key is they set it / spring it / valve it for your weight and specifically for your FZR. I'm pretty sure that's what i'll be doing hopefully before next summer. That way you don't have to bother with dogbones at all.

I see you have a good list of modifications, just thinking of keeping with a high quality list to match such a good looking (assumed good-running) bike.
(likely if you get the R6 to fit you'll have to get a new 750(?) pound spring installed, or something along those lines) (i believe stock spring rate is 726 pounds)

What i'm also wondering is... did you ever put any Race Tech .90kg/mm or 1.0kg/mm springs in your fork? This will do wonders for the bike. It was probably the single greatest improvement i've done on mine. People always want to just "change the fork oil" but really this doesn't do very much.

You sir must be a physic! Yes 200 lbs. The shock that is on their now is the stock (origional 30k miles) shock and it is beat to death!!!!! Again as stated I am not looking for "race Quality" so the R6 is just a budget minded replacement. I like that fact that I can "Tinker" with the adjustments. I figure that if I keep the bike for more than a year, I will do the rear swinger swap, and all this will be a mute point. As far as the list of mods, they were mostly done prior to my ownership or found on EBay cheaply.

The front feels great, I assume it has something "non stock" in in. I dont know this for sure.

So bottom line, I got the shock for 35 bucks shipped and am hoping to get a set of bones that will bolt right up with out breaking the bank.........

Anybody have a set, or can make me a set of solid ones? (I saw the adjustable one that someone made, and while they are a great idea, I prefer solid)

if the front end doesnt feel like rubbish then something in it is non stock!

I have 15w fluid and extra preload and it still spaghetti

I used the 02 r6 shock and I had to remount the upper bracket and then it ended up raising the rear of the bike up 3-4 inches. I then had to use some lowering links to bring the height back down 3 inches. I dont think the r6 will work in the OEM upper bracket. Im almost positive it wont work. You will have to fab up an upper bracket. I can make you one for $35 shipped.
