Tire Question: Shinko 006 Podium

Post by the_finch »

As the title suggests, I was looking at bikebandit.com and notice the Shinko 006 Podium tires, and saw that they offer them in 150/60R18 rear and 120/70R17 front to fit our bikes. Has anyone tried these tires before? If so, how do they stack up against the Bridgestone Battlax BT014/BT016's that are so popular on the forum here?

I'm looking to replace my rubber in the upcoming months, and was gonna weigh out my options before I buy tires.

I'm running the Podiums Front and Back. I love them. They aren't the most expensive tires out there, but there isn't a ton of options for us. I ordered them from http://www.tireexpress.com and got them for $160 shipped. I've had no problems with the tires at all, and would definitely recommend them.

Alright from what I've read about shinko's, is that everyone that has something bad to say about them never actually tried them, but bases their opinion on "half price=half quality". Now for those people that have tried them, they say they are well worth the money. Not that they're better than your top tire, but worth the price. Bad expiriences with shinkos were noted when they had mixed brand of tires(shink front, dunlop rear).

So in conclusion I would say get the shinkos unless you plan on going to the track often. And ofcourse if you do go with the shinkos, please document your expirience with them and post that up on the forum.

ps. I also read that Yokohama makes shinkos.

Thanks for the help, guys. It looks like I'll probably go with the Shinko's then. My bike won't really see any track time except for the occasional eighth-mile dragstrip run, just to see what it will do.

I'll repost here when I get them (it may be a month or two) and give my take on them after a little use.

And, as we all know, of course:
