Wont Crank Still????? Help!! (UPDATE)!!

Ok fellow fizzer's, Im still having problems with my 94 Fzr600.

To begin with I got caught in a rain storm and had to ride 18-20 miles home. On the way I felt it skipping and I knew I had water in the wires..but when I got home I had allready done the damage...the fuel had chrystalized the rings in the 15 or so miles that it had no fire on the cyl....the next day I fired it up and it was skipping cyl 3....then smoking really bad...compression was 50-60lbs....pulled head..jugs..pistons...done a valve job, measured cyl..minimal wear..re-ring pistons...installed all..measured valve lash 2 times..(set correctly).. timing is correst too!!

While it was down I installed a dynojet stage 3 jet kit.. needles set on the 5th slot(the way it says in the book) 130 mains, drilled slides, mixture screws 4 turns out......Ok here it goes.....I charged the battery cause it had been sitting for 3 weeks, installed and tried to crank...very weak and abnormal spark, Ive put new vr, battery, coils and wires. I have checked the pickup 100ohms. Someone said starter button with water inside...I removed and cleaned..nothing....BUT!!! I can turn the battery charger to 250cca boost and it fires right up...The exessive voltage overcomes whatever is wrong...and If you Crank it it will run fine and haul a@@!! But if you shut it off it will not start..It will try is soon as you touch the button and when you let off???? But I can push it off by myself about 10-15 feet and It fires right up....just not with the starter...it will churn and churn and churn.....nothing........HELP!!!!

Well Its been 12 hrs and NO REPLY? What is goin on? I really want to ride today some while it aint rainin........

Is it a new battery? Some they just won't take a charge. Does it have enough water in it? Double check the ground wires too. If you have already replaced everything, it sounds like the last timngs are the strator or the computer. What VR did you switch to?

Your not building my confidence with the motor not cranking - I'm going to try to start mine up today after the 1 1/2 year build.

All the grounds are good and the battery will turn the engine for at least 30 min before going dead....its good.....and the stator ohms out at 100 which in the diagrams ive been reading is good......so whats next?

Something does not sound right at all. Sounds like its not getting gas or something but you said it will push off? Let me call a friend to see what he suggests it is.

My buddy said without seeing it to make sure you have trusted your multimeter and check everything...starter, vr, stator...etc. your losing voltage some where and your not getting enough for a spark. Using your manual to check resistance and everything. Hope this helps.

no reply from me because i am NOT knowledgeable about electrical problems. This sounds like a pretty difficult problem, only a very few people here have that kind of expertise, and they don't always check here every day. Believe me, we're not ignoring you. If I even had a clue what was wrong with your bike I'd let you know. Sounds like some complicated electrical gremlin to me. Even when you said "water in the wires" i get baffled. I've ridden in a hurricane and never had any problems caused by water. Sorry I wish I could help ya, all i can do is give ya a *bump* and hope this problem never happens to me.


Don't feel too bad, some questions go for months unanswered or never even replied to on many websites. I have to give the guys here a lot of credit, they who have the expertise usually respond pretty quick. Plus it's a summer weekend. Not like middle of the winter when people are sitting around drinking WD-40.

Choke? Did you put the spark plug wires and coils back in the correct order?

Ok Guys, I just got done with a 100 mile ride on it. .....It runs great!!!!! But It wont crank STILL!! I can drive it anywhere...I stopped to get gas and had to push it off(I FELT STUPID) . But it fired right up and has plenty of power idle-12k. If I get it real good and hot it will fire right back up if I dont let it sit but 5 sec..I counted 20 sec and it would not start. ...It has a Dynojet kit..118 main, needle at 2nd, 2 1/2-3 turns a/f screw...Like I say it runs great.....Just cant go anywhere and let it sit....I have been working on this problem for a month now. ..I have tested and re-tested..ohmed and re-ohmed..Im an ASE Master and this bike is really agravating. ...I have a complete wiring diagram and have checked the wires coming from the pick-up to the ignitor...and I replaced the Vr with one with fins...It was only charging 12.5 at 4k now it charges 13v at idle and 14 at 4k...........It gets really hot...converting a/c to d/c current.......Well Thanks Guys for all the help... ....I dont care what it will cost to fix it, even if I have to replace the stator, pickup, digital ignitor...it dont matter....I just dont want to throw parts at it.......I want someone to help me diag it and fix what it wrong.......

I agree. It sounds like a job for Yamaha George. Maybe he will check in on us tonight.

Looking at the positive lead of the battery, it goes straight to the starter relay. Check it, or if you have a spare 10guage wire hanging about replace it. Check the connections to the stater and the relay for tightness and corrosion. There's my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

I have ran I jumper wire to the solenoid and it didnt help....and I have also jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver and it still didnt start...but like I said it will crank and crank and crank fine....but weak and not a steady fire at startup...now with the heavy duty charger on wide open 250 crank boost it has bright blue and steady fire...and starts in 2 sec...everytime............Why do I get the only Fzr with this problem and no one has ran into this.......Hell if someone could help me fix this I would prob donate another 25.00 more.......just so I dont go freakin CRAZY!!!! BUT THANKS FOR THE REPLYS!!!!!!!

Could it be something in controls??? When you switch the ingition on and "bounce" start it works... So we know that the ignition switch is fine..

When you are cranking the engine with the battery so we know that the battery is good.. I'm wondering if you are shorting something out when pushing the starter button cranking that is dropping the spark.

That could be the case...I can bump the start and on a warm engine within 5 sec of off time I will fire right up with a bump of the start switch......BUT....If I wait or its cold...U can hang it up.....Ive got a test light on the pos of the battery and im watching the switching gnd coming from the Digital Ignition Box and it will light as soon as I touch the start and when I release it...I have dissassembled the switch..wire brushed the copper contacts and applied die-electric grease....Im tellin ya I believe Ive almost done everything.....EXCEPT FIX IT!!!!!
