okay, so I have a 97 Yamaha fzr 600 needs quite a bit of work, but one issue im concerned about is that I have idled my bike for maybe 5 minutes, and revving it here and there and I don't recall ever seeing my temp gauge go up. it is missing its fan also. so my question is how long should it take for the temp to rise? if its clearly not working what do I check? I used to work on my own dirtbikes and atvs but never really dug into a streetbike. any and all help is greatly appreciated

My bike takes at least 4 to 5 minutes running before the gauge rises to the point that the fan kicks on,running in my garage temp. about 65 degrees. You should see the gauge moving at least a little after a couple minutes idling.Sounds like a bad temp. sensor or gauge.I think if you ground out the gauge with 12 volts to it it should pin the needle and rule out the gauge. That's how Iv'e checked gauges in the past, don't know if our's work like that or not.Someone will probably jump in here to verify.Get yourself a service manual, really helpful diagnosing problems.Between the manual and this forum you can find pretty much everything you need to work on your bike.

hey just wanted to let people know that my temp gauge appears to be working, I guess when I ran it before it was too cold out to move the gauge even with revving it.
