Laid my bike down :(

So last Friday I got ran off the highway and laid my bike down. I'm lucky, my helmet saved my life and I walked away from it with a minor concussion and minor road rash. Now I'm trying to get my bike fixed, there is little damage to it.
Now I'm not very mechanically inclined so take that into account as I try to explain the damages to the bike.

1) The headlight fairing no longer seems to be in place and I believe it was bent upward, I believe this because my gauges (spedo, rpm, ect) are pushed up closer to the handlebars.
2) I rode it for a moment around the block to see if there was any other damages to the bike, it seem like there is something touching my chain at times, I can feel it in my left foot peg. I thought that my peg might have just been pushed in as its touching some back thing on my bike on the frame.

Any ideas on the chain situation as well how should I approaching fixing the headlight fairing/gauge issue. Other than those issues everything else seems to be working just fine.

First off, glad your ok.
It may help if you snap a few pics of where you think the chain problem might be. Check Its possible that rear set bracket maybe bent and is rubbing swingarm, or the kickstand is tweeked rubbing chain. Also maybe a rock or something made its way up into sprocket cover. Like i said take a few pics of the front side and rear of the bike and im sure someone here will give you a quick and accurate collision appraisal. jk Did those fancy mirrors survive?
Like I said Glad your allright and if it happens to be that the fairing stay is bent and you cant straighten it up there are quite a few on ebay right now and also just saw a pair of rear sets there too pretty cheap....

You know what I didn't even think about the kick stand. I'll take pictures after work. The mirrors unfortunately are both broken off now :( luckily I kept the stock mirrors so I'll have to throw those back on it for now.

Glad you're OK. The fairing stay might not be too hard to bend back out. I did mine with a little bit of heat from a torch.

Chris.

Okay so I fixed the chain issue, seemed to be touching the rubber piece thing that sits below the chain needed readjusted.
Now onto the whole gauges being too close issue, I'm not sure what I should be attempting to bend back into place to get everything repositioned properly.
Thanks for all the help!

what you should do is go ahead and pull it off the bike. May look difficult but not hard at all. I can strip mine down in like 5 min now...lol. Two 12mm bolts on frame under upper tripple you will need extension for rachet. remove seat then two remove two bolts on back tank cover 2 on front of cover and 5mm allen wrench for gas cap ring there are little triangles on there that tell you which ones to remove. then remove two bolts for rear bracket . Remove fairing bolts unplug things attached to harness. then remove the 12mm bracket bolts to front of frame. Should come off with guages and headlights still attached. The front blinkers shoul unlpu too and stay attached (i think) now you have it off you can strip it down a little easier at your workbench chillin with a cold beverage..lol. You might be able to straighten it up i just said get a used one to make it easier on you cause you say your not very good at this stuff. But if you do this and try to straighten it yourself you will learn a few things and dont worry you cant mess it up any more than it already is..lol.. When you do get it off look at where it was mounted probably bent around there somewhere same with the bracket mounting point that was under tank cover also. Then put it in a vise and do whatever it takes to bend it back. Stand on it, beat on it, have a friend help pull on it just what ever it takes. if you dont have a vise be creative and wedge it in somewhere to get the leverage you need to bend it back. If the bike just laid over on it side chances are the other half of the bracket is ok and you can eyeball it or measure it out, off a center point to get bent side straight again. Just go for it and post back with any questions and get some pics of bare Main stay. As far as which bracket you need i looked them up and the 89 part number is 3he-28356-10-00 and 90 model is 3he-28356-30-00 and 91 is 3he-28356-50-00 so i dont know cause the end numbers are different. But im sure someone on here will confirm what year models will work...You will have to do all of this reguardless so you might as well try to staighten the one you have first. Then go from there. HAVE FUN.
Also these bikes take only a few tools for the basic stuff. 8mm,10mm,12mm,14mm, 17mm, Allen wrenches metric, screwdrivers,..... Read the recent post on CPR and youll get idea....

Got the rear stray straightened! Front stray not so much. Or at least I can't get it realigned with everything mainly the air tubes. So do I need the air tubes because if not than I should be good.

I really dont see how they do much anyway. Im sure there is a purpose. Streetfighters dont have them and most of them fill the holes up so they look better. Make sure you check every critical bolt to make sure nothing loosened up on ya .Like axel's, tripples, Brakes, rear wheel ,make sure its still centered....ect. before you go haulin ass again. Also be sure to start stretching leg area like you were doing the splits, so next time you can kick a dent in their door when they start coming in your lane....lmao....Ride Safe ..and ill keep an eye out for a stay just in case...

Leg stretches are a go! But I don't think my legs are going to do too much damage to Semi's door lol! While I have the bike apart today I've been cleaning it and doing some maintenance. The K&N air filter was filthy, everything else was pretty dirty and dusty too. Checking all the bolts still and hopefully get to ride a little bit today as well, thanks for all the help and well wishes!
I think I'm going to try searching for new plastics, but they seem to be hard to find without spending an arm and a leg for already damaged pieces.

Well a few months ago I knew nothing at all about motorcycles. And now ive disassembled and reassembled every thing but the engine and wheels, and it runs. So this site has almost any information you will need for rehabilitation. Just takes a little extra patience and it will probably save you alot of money, and also you will have the priceless knowledge of what your operating. Its worth it.
And as for the semi that tried to run you over. Redline and honk at hi at the same time. Its saved my life a few times.
