cdi and headlight issues

Post by fzr19941995 »

OK I am new here any help would be appreciated.a couple weeks ago I lost power to my headlights.Tryed to track the wiring and could not find anything. The wiring has been butchered from previous owners.I decided to run the headlight direct with a fuse in between and a toggle switch tapped into the wire coming out of the right headlight plug.went with yellow wire first it WAS the brights ran that for a day or two.First day I smelt a burnt wire smell.didn't feel any hot wires.I rewired it two the green wire got it back to the dim headlights still smelled the smell .I tracked it down to the cdi box. When I re ran the headlight wires I taped of the wire going back to the bike so I was running extra juice or back charging it.So I don't know if I fryed the cdi or if it was just coincidence.Anyway I got on this forum and I seen I should check my turn signal switches and starter switch I haven't done this yet but will.and I will rewire everything back the way the bike was when I got it.after I rewired the headlight my right turn signals stopped working but than a few days they started working for a few minutes .Like I said the wiring is a mess from previous owners and I couldn't really track anything down.Anyway sorry for such a long post but any advice or info would be appreciated thanks.

First off - welcome to the madness!

Second, trying to diagnose wiring issues on a hacked harness by using the Force is madness - download the wiring diagram, print it out, get an understanding of what you're looking at and what you're looking for.
