Newbie Questions here

Post by peterdamian2000 »

Hello guys...

I am a newbie here to the fzr forum. i used to own a 1990 fzr as my first bike back around 1999 and sold it to a friend so that i can upgrade to a newer 2000 honda vtr1000. i still own that machine but recently have the opportunity to buy back my old fzr from that buddy. it's been sitting for quite some time and although i would like to purchase it back, i don't want to run into the problem of buying it, then trying to find parts for it and they're not around or available any longer. so far i've been going nuts trying to find tires for that thing because of the oddball sizes the machine has (17" up front/18" rear). banghead
right now the bike has battlax's front and rear (110/70/17 &140/70/18) and i have had a bear of a time trying to find a matching tire set...a GOOD matching set.

here's the questions...i understand that the yzf 600 is a suitable bike to grab parts from. i was wondering if anyone out there can tell me what is the biggest rear tire size the factory fzr swingarm can accept, on the factory 18" wheel without any modification to it and/or is it advisable to buy a used (good & straight) yzf 17" wheel for it?
if i have to go to a yzf 17" wheel, what tire size can i put on it (in other words can the factory yzf 160/60/17 tire fit in the factory fzr swingarm)?

please help!!! i REALLY want to get this bike.

thanks.

The easist thing to do would be to install a YZF600 swing arm and wheel.

Or you can get a 150/60/18 size tire here:

Found this thread with the same question in mind. Looks like the Podiums are it. Did you end up with those and what are your opinions?

I ran a contenintal road attack 2 front and rear. 160/60 zr 18 rear and a 120/70 zr17 front. Matched set. Really loved those tires. Fit perfect with no mods. Check amazon. Lots of people carry them

Yeah, much more options in the 160/60 sizes, just not in the 150/60 profile.

i have a 93 fzr600 and im currently running Avon RoadRider 140/60/18 rear and 110/70/17 front.

Bmansdzr600, this may be another newb question but were these tires run on the factory rims and swingarm?
