Clutch cable routing

Post by davephipps »

I'm noting a bit more friction in my clutch cable than there should be sinse I reinstalled it. I have the cable routed under/beside the carbs then through the hole in the fame to the lever. Is this correct?

I would have to go look and get back to you later this evening. Maybe someone else has more time this afternoon or knows about it.

I know on the 400, you go through where the wire looms go through into the frame. Follow down until you get to the next opening in the frame which on the 400 is pretty much between the fuel tank and carbs on the inside, then feed it down to the sprocket cover. Again, that's how it is on the 400.. But I'm sure it can't be much different on the 600.

I just replaced mine. From the handle it's between the forks then into the hole in the frame. I went underneath the little arm that sticks out for the airbox wiener. From there it was below the carbs than a gradual curve into the sprocket cover. Did you adjust your free play on the sprocket cover end correctly?

I've checked it out and found the cable to be binding in the frame opening. I've bypassed the frame opening and it works fine now. I'll check lster why it's so crowded in there. Right now I'm happy to have an operational clutch cable.
Look for my new thread on carb woes :)
