Bike Won't Shift Into Gear

All right so I finally get my bike all together go to test it out and it wont shift out of neutral

. Angry yea, after i put the engine back together i could spin the engine manually by hand (but i guess it was still in neutral). any ideas of what the issue could be? not having to take the engine apart would be awesome. I tried with the kick stand up and down because I was not sure if i wired that switch in backwards or not. It was kinda late last night so it could be something simple that I just couldnt think of but any extra ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You!
its a 92 fzr 600 engine, brand new clutch cable, no bends in the left foot controls

My clutch plates got stuck together after sitting a long time with no oil. I had to take the right side engine cover off and pull the clutch pack apart, put some oil on the plates and put it all back together. I assume the same thing could happen just from sitting around as the oil doesn't come up to the clutch when the bike isn't running. You can take the clutch cover off without draining the oil when the bike is on the kick stand as all the oil is in the left side of the engine.
Just to clarify, this is when the bike is running right? If you can't shift gears while the bike is not running then some thing else is wrong.

I figured out the problem, I believe the plates stuck together and we didn't know it and of course we ran the engine quite a few times just to adjust stuff and now it looks like this (see Picture) so i will be getting some new clutch parts and will try again.

HOLY

!!! I thought clutch parts only looked like that after flywheel explosions on drag cars!
Well, at least it looks like your clutch basket is ok.

Wow. Are those flecks of metal all over the inside of the cover? If so, that engine is toast.
It looks like the screws that hold the clutch plates on may have contacted the inside of the case. Either that or your transmission is seized. It doesn't look good for that motor, whatever it was.

When metal hits metal at high speed, there tends to be a lot of small pieces that get thrown off. I'd be really weary of that motor.
So your saying the inside of the cover is banged up? That definitely sounds like contact with the bolts then. Can you shift gears now (with the bike not running of course)?
