Temperature sensor vapor gauge

Post by xcmercy »

I posted this over at fzrarchives as well but I want to double my chances of getting a response..

I'm installing a vapor digital gauge on my bike and I purchased the generic installation. The kit comes with an inline temperature sensor that is meant to be spliced into one of the coolant lines. I would like to use the bikes stock temp sensor for my installation. Trail tech uses two thread pitches on their temp sensors, one is an m6x1.0 and the other is 1/8thx28. I called vapor and found that the sensor in the inline pipe for my kit was the 1/8thx28. Will this thread size fit? I planned on using the sensor circled in red below. It is labeled as "thermo unit" in the stealerships parts fiche. I've seen people talking about this on here but has anyone done this with success? Is it the correct thread and pitch?

Here is the inline sensor that came in my kit.

Pretty sure trail tech is wrong. I installed one on a customer's bike and it went right into the stock housing. I can tell you right now there is no standard on that there metric bike. Easiest way is to just pull the one from trail tech and use a thread pitch measuring gauge. It will be metric. If it isn't, don't bother pulling yours out of the bike.

Thanks for the response, I had a feeling the guy might be wrong. Did your kit come with the same blue inline sensor? Should I drain my coolant before taking the stock sensor out?
