i am taking my 06 R1 swingarm to get machines tomorrow night
anyway does anyone have a true dimension of the mounting width from dust cap to dust cap? I plan on measuring mine tonight when i pull it but i could be a few mills under or over with a tape measure. i know the dimension with out the dust caps is 8.47 but the r1 caps are totaly different in thickness so i was just wondering what the overall outside mounting dimension was of the stock 600 arm. some reason i think its like 8.75" but i am going off old data on the archives.
let me know before 11:00am tomorrow morning if you can please...i wont be near a PC after 11am.

For some reason 221mm is sticking out in my head. Which is about 8-11/16". Let me know if you still need this measurement. I can verify the fizzer swingarm when I get home tonight.

yeah it would help if somone else posted a dimenion in case i get a different reading.
i remebered 8.75"
you remembered 8.70 which is 221mm converted
closest other american measurement you said was 8.6875"
just keeping a tally of all the close dimensions...either way i gotta take a little less then 1" off the R1 swingarm per side swear

swear swear

swear

Sounds very close. Mine came from how much I had to take off the VFR swingarm. I wanted 10 or 10.5 mm from each side and I know the '93 model swingarm I'm using was 242mm. So 221, 222mm should be very close. Sorry, but I got too use to working in metric with the build and have a hard time converting back. Plus my calculator will only go to 1/64".
A full inch though to take off. Damn that's a lot of material. How much material will be left after machining?

I dont mind metric...i can work either way i just like to be accurent to the 2nd decimal place if not the 3rd. since i am a drafter the more precise i can be the better.
i will measure mine tonight...this type of shit needs to be sticky'ed some place.

Interesting. How much different is the R1 swingarm from the R6? I remember when both Spyder and Griffen were going their swing arm swap, albeit R6, they also had to remove material from the inside of the frame. That would be cool if it can be done without having to touch the frame.

R1 swingarm for 04-06 is 10.50 wide total. i do not want to touch the frame its on the bike haha...if i had another frame i would cut it up and stuff.
ill know tomorrow how it turns out. dont expect any information until friday.

The FZR 400 swingarm I modded to take twin shocks was 220.0 mm with dust caps in place I had to take 10mm off each side to fit it to the RD frame which was 200mm wide.
I hope that helps I can only assume that 400 & 600 have the same pivot width

i took my swingarm out last night. yes the arm is 8.75" long.
you can machine the frame out to 9.55 but you will have a harder time getting the swingarm to slip stright in. i can see why spyder did this but i do no feel its any advantage.
