Is anyone able to tell me what shocks from other bikes will bolt in as a straight swap for the FZR600 item?

I run Fox Twin Clickers. Had a modified Busa shock on there for a bit.

There are certain year FZ1, R6 and others that will bolt up.

ThatKid (Nate) put on an 06 R6 Shock. Not sure if it required any modifications.

R6 shock:

What you need:
06-08 R6 shock (earlier years WON'T work without alot more work)
Spacers
Dog bones
I also recommend a heavier spring for the fzr600, around a 650-750lbs, the stock r6(~500lbs) is perfect for the fzr400.

The Shock:
These can be picked up of eBay for next to nothing ~$25USD( to the person who was trying to sell one on ebay.au for $550 for the fzr). You will need to round the lower shock mount so that it clears the suspension knuckle.

All the r6 shocks that can be used for this conversion look like this


This is were you have to grind the shock slightly so it clears the knuckle

The spacers:
You need two of these spacers as the fzr shock is 10mm wider than the R6 and uses a 12mm bolt opposed to a 10mm . 10mm dia hole drilled through. The green section needs to be 5mm wide, dia doesn't really matter can be anywhere from 14mm to 20mm. The red section just under 12mm dia and ~7mm long. For the fzr400 ignore the stepped down section on the left(red) as the fzr400 uses a 10mm bolt which is the same size as the r6, so you only need the green section.

Dog bones:
~10mm short than the FZR dog bones, this raises the bike back near stock. 6mm thick.

For the fzr400(3en1) I had to grind a tiny amount of the top frame mount although I didn't have an issue with the 600.

I have run the FZR 400 rear shock as per the PO but it now has a proper FZR6 on it and it is a lot better.

I have all the bits for the Busa mod but I am hesitant about the removing the battery box fixings & the height of the battery is raised so close to the seat

If I run with the 06 or later R6 do I need to alter the frame in any way?

I just trying to keep the bike as stock as possible but still improve it

What frame are you using George? The fzr600 requires no modification and the 3en1 3en2 require a small amount removed from the support for the hole that the battery box sits in.

Will a shock for an FZR1000 bolt in there?

Maxton Racing rear shock on my racebike. Seemed to work pretty well at Snetterton, but my forks have been dropped through the yokes so far that I ran out of ground clearance quite early.

The Bombhole and Coram Curve took care of the letters A, M and A from my bellypan.........

playing catchup here, the frame is 3HE 92 model FZR600.
as for pictures of the various shocks I have see:-

As I explained to FB. my installation of the 'busa was acbolt in no grinding what stopped it for me was the battery box issue that was a .
step too far as all my mods must be reverisble for any restoration nut who buys it from me later

The 600GXSR seems to be staright forward so far with just spacers to make for the top end fitting. my bottom end does (at least on trial fit up requires no grinding.)

WP also makes a rear shock.

Going on I have the workshop fork lift booked for Monday to put the GSZR600 shock in made the spacers as per pic (hope my tolerencing is right mind you the lathe is feet away so.....)

My next concern is a 17" wheel into to my 3EN swingarm the top choice will be a 3en wheel to get 17" rim fat tyre I am not fussed about just a better choice of rubber

The YZF wheel is out as I am not prepared to mangle frames with the yzf swing arm & iffy front sprocket fixings.

anyone use aGSXR600 wheel (has the same spoke patter as the fzr at least ?

UPDATE:-
well the GSXR600 K6 K7 '06 '07 shock will not work with a 3EN swingarm as the reservoir almost sits on the bracing
the 'busa could work BUT you have to get a shorter battery and cut the bottom off the battery box to clear the reservoir.

If I were to use the stock swing arm 3HE or the 1wg swing arm then the GSXR can work once you get a suitable 10mm bolt & washer/ spacers made

as a side note I rode the bike in and it was alittle sloppy /sluggish in the corners reason a 1.5 inch screw in the back tyre, 116 UKP for a tyre & fitting *3K
