fzr engine/tranny investigation

Post by petttu »

So my -93 fzr broke a couple of weeks ago, it had an snapping sound when cold from the engine and the transmission had quite bad whining in 1, neutral and 2 gears. Then one day I drove it and there where very loud sound coming from the gear box so i pulled over and stopped the engine I led it cool for a while and the try it, there were still some strange noise, but not nearly as bad what it was before cooling. So I decided to take the motor out and take a look.

The oil pan had some metal on itImage

one of the connecting rod bearing was badly wornImage Image

I think there is too much movement on all of the connecting rods?
But the metal could not come form there because it the metal where sort of copper color

so I checked the transmission

The 1 and 3 shift forks had minor wear
