93 fzr 600 no power, won't idle, blows fuses. I'm lost help!

My name is jake, i'm new to this site but i've had motorcycles quads dirtbikes and cars in my life that i've worked on. I consider myself alright mechanically but not a pro. My 1993 fzr 600 is having some strange problems and i don't know what to do. I hadn't started it in a couple months so i put new gas in it. It ran fine had good power and nothing was wrong. I let it idle for about 15 minutes the next day and it was still good, but when i tried to run it again after that it sounded wrong and wouldn't run right, it won't idle without throttle and then once it got hot it started blowing fuses like crazy and i couldn't keep it running. I have no idea what is going on with it. It has a really strange tone, its burning 2 plugs and fowling the other 2. It takes about 10 seconds to get up to 8 thousand rpm in first gear. The only thing aftermarket is a slip on. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out it's driving me nuts. If anybody has any insight into this issue or had the same problem i would really appreciate the advice.

You check your voltage regulator and the battery.

I have a new voltage regulator ordered and on its way because mine does get really hot, it melted the plug a little bit. But the battery can effect how it runs? I thought it would run without a battery

I agree blown fuses are a good indication of a bad vr. Plus its pre 95 so it probably has the original "candy bar" style vr.

Chris.

It will run without the battery but I don't think you will get the full effect.

" I thought it would run without a battery"

It will run exactly like this with a incorrectly charged battery usually caused by a faulty V/R.

" It will sound wrong and won't run right, it won't idle without throttle and then once it gets hot it will start blowing fuses like crazy and won't keep running. . It will have a really strange tone, and will burn plugs or foul them . It will take an unusually long to get up to circa 10 thousand rpm .!"

Welcome in Jake;
By giving a concise, clear and well punctuated description of your problem you have virtually diagnosed it yourself.
Well done.
Read up on V/R upgrades and the damage an overcharging one can do.Be prepared to puchase a new battery, hopefully the tach may have escaped unharmed. You will find that existing bulbs will fail more regularly than anticipated until they have been replaced.

The V/R terminals and/or the fixing bolts to the cooling plate it's fitted to, which is also its primary earthing point, have corroded during the lay-up period. Shunt type V/R's dislike heat and/or poor earthing intensely and fail virtually immediately.

Dont run a FZR without a battery ;you will kill the V/R very quickly and more than likely damage the TCI......................
awaits Don's (who also makes a very good harness adaptor to plug and play the upgraded later type V/R ) input or correction here.

The bike won't run without a battery. And if the battery is low it will not rev past 3-4k and then cut out on no throttle.

Alright. Thank you everyone for your help. Ill go get a new battery and once my new voltage regulator arrives i'll post whether those things helped the situation. I'm also going to get a new set of plugs. Does anyone use E3 plugs? Are they better? If so let me know if those are worth buying

I seem to be a little late to the party, but that's nothing new ...

As TK said, these bikes won't run without a battery. Attempting to do so will kill your VRR in very short order; what happens is the VRR sensing circuit thinks the system voltage is ZERO, and goes wide open. The VRR fries, and the rest of the bike's electricals are exposed to voltage pulses approaching 30v. Just say NO! :yuck:

Today i put in a new VRR and a new battery. It runs a bit better now but still only about half power... maybe less, I'm hoping when i put in a fresh set of plugs that it will get the rest of the power back.
I had no idea it wouldn't run without a battery so thanks for the advice again. My negative terminal was very loose on the old battery and not making a solid connection. Whooops

Cleaned the plugs again before the new ones come and more power came back than i knew it had. VR/R is still getting hot and its breakin up a bit in high RPM but it still never ran this well for me

Now that you have SOME power, start tracking down the rest. Check your plug wires and caps for security and condition; that's often a culprit for high-rev breakup.

Alright, still going. I replaced the VRR with a cheap one and it just wasn't right so i went for the r6 VRR or whatever its from, the square one with rounded corners. Thats in now and im still having issues. The last fuse in the fuse box, the fourth one, i believe a 20, what does that do? The bike won't start with it in and if i put it in running the brake light comes on and wont turn off til i pull the fuse. Oh and through all this electrical nonsense my brake lights dont work anymore. My rad fan also doesn't work but i don't know if it did since i got it. At least it seems to run well now
