Gasket question

I posted this over on FZRarchives.com but after a couple of days I haven't gotten any responses.
I have a 91 FZR600 that I started work on years ago and then life happened. So it's been in storage for quite some time. Now that my bro and I have some time we're thinking of getting her back into fighting shape. Lots of things need to be done/addressed but one of the main reasons for taking it off the road was a valve adjustment and a partial tear down to address some rust on the frame. I believe the previous owner wasn't paying attention to the battery or the overflow tube from the battery. It leaked and the hose was close to the frame and it's got some rust. Nothing that has compromised the strength but I need to fix it. So, long story short, here's my first question.
Just before having to store it, I replaced the clutch and put a shift kit in it. When I was installing the spring I believe my tool slipped and poked a hole in a gasket that is just below where the spring installs. I don't have any photos, yet. I'm at work and am not near the bike to do so. I'm just curious if anyone knows what I'm talking about, what this gasket is and if this is a problem. It's been a long time since I've laid my eyes on the hole but I think it separated the clutch housing and the oil pan? Does this sound right?
Thanks in advance, guys and gals.
