My 3he resto

Post by JohnBoy69 »

Got my 1989 model 3HE MOT'd this morning following a 'semi restoration' since mid february. Still got to tidy up the fairing lowers and fit them back on.

Image

I've spent a few quid (too much) and many happy hours in my cramped cold garage trying to get this bike right. It's original spec except the Triumph Daytona Nissin front calipers and it seems to have an FZ600 rear disc...

Bodywork: Resprayed: frame, birdcage, front mudguard, fork legs, exhaust, rear peg hangers, fairing stay etc etc etc
Used sound side panels from Spain with a few new bits of vinyl and a bit of paint.
New genuine fairing top decals.

Mechanical: Tappets checked and new plugs.
New fork seals, dust seals, snaprings and oil.
Triumph calipers, new braided front lines, new pads and fluid.
Mended steering lock+ pass switch.

Odds n sods: Genuine throttle tube+grips, genuine screen trim, repro screen label, repro foot rubbers, repro mirrors, new jap horn, genuine reflector and reflactor bracket.

That looks awesome. I wish mine still had the original red, white, blue color scheme.

Thanks for the kind words.

Here's some more pics during progress.

When I get the lowers done and on i'll post it pictured outside as the pics in the garage aren't great. I've just put on a micron can i got with the bike but it's SO loud i think i'll probably put the standard can back on.

Cheers!

Yeah the bike originally cost me just over £700 in a pretty tidy-ish usable condition with a bit of MOT and tax and the only real problems being a weeping fork seal and leaking/seized brake caliper. This seemed like a lot of bike for the money when people are paying about £1500 for a ratty RD200 etc etc.

I've put in some hours and probably £500+ on parts and paint, but I've enjoyed doing it and it's great fun to ride. I plan to keep it indefinitely.

Thats showroom fresh now, you've done an excellent job. Cant believe how tight the space was where you did the work, well done that man.
