I would strongly suggest that nobody wait on the archives to magically re-open. I am 99% sure that's not going to happen.
If i knew how to build a website, it would already be in the process as we speak, this is why i can only donate funds to the one who can build a website.
I cannot pay for everything, so i only ask that whoever else is interested, please be prepared to help fund the development of a brand spanking new website.
please respond to this thread if you are able to donate. we need to get started right away. MODKING

The problem is as I see it that the community could split going behind several sites, which means that valuable people such as yourself would either not be available or spend time on multiple sites. I saw this happen in the 2stroke era 20 years back ONLY 3 resources now really survived and the wealth of knowledge is now at least condensed on them, but I know huge amounts of experience was LOST.
If we know Mike has shut up shop CAN WE at least get the data HE OWNS back to a central place to be worked on by those who can . That way we can have some sort of continuity.
As to a web site yup I asked Mike for traffic figures because I have an interest in a small UK ISP but like any business man I cannot commit unless I KNOW what I & my partners are getting into.
The other way is that those of us with DATA stored of useful nature ie picture, links write ups pool these and then they can be centralised now that bit under my terms of contract with the others in the ISP I can do NOW.
Just my 2c
Re: READ!!!!!
I really hope we can figure something out here... there was so much valuable information on the old site that it would be a crying shame if were to lose it, or had to start again. Mike if you're reading this, let us know what we can do/how we can help, or what you see happening with the site!
George, all good points. I may have a few options available as well, but you're right, until we get an idea or at least a ballpark of bandwidth/storage requirements, it's hard to get any solid commitments. I really hope we don't LOSE the information.

Maybe Mike is not here on this list. We still have an admin email for him on the old site.
I have pinged him twice to no avail. ANYONE have a better method of getting hold of Mike.
If his ISP wipes the Data all is lost we must get Mike to get access to HIS data and it is HIS not the ISP's buy the damned disks if required but that access is crucial.
In the mean time how many of US have copies of stuff that can be centralised ?
Re: READ!!!!!
I've got just about EVERYTHING from the site, save for the forums.. I have it all stored on my hard drive.. (I didn't grab the 600 manual files..) I don't want to get into a situation where it causes grief with anyone that we've taken the data from his site because Mike was good to me in the short time I had been there (helped with an ugly purchasing situation).. And we still don't know what's going on with the archives to begin with. It appears he's in the process of moving to a new hosting service, but we're just not sure yet.
