Racing my 1993 FZR600

Post by tclayton9 »

I have a 1993 FZR600 as a daily driver. It has 13,000 miles and drives fine. I wanted to know would one day at the track drag racing hurt my bike any. I wanna test my bike against other bikes, and see where my skills match with other drivers. It shifts through all the gears fine in high rpms with no slips or pop outs, but with the reputation of the gearbox Im kinda scared to try it at the track banghead . Would it be ok to try it for one night. banghead

It's a gamble. If it is your only source of transportation I would not do it. Depending on how good with the clutch you are and how many runs you do, there's a good chance that your clutch will get toasted. Unless you are racing other FZR's or total newbies, you probably won't fare too well in the results so of you do it, do it for fun and the experience.

My clutch skills are quite well. I've riding bikes for years now but never been on the strip. I just wanted to see who could I match with.

It really is a gamble, I've been known to torture my transmission and clutch and it comes back for more. Other people don't do anything crazy and it falls apart. If you're talking about a drag strip, you really won't do that well. New with a slip on these usually ran in 12.5 range, check out the sportrider website for 1/4 times on other bikes and you'll see the difference.

Road Racing or Drag Racing?

Sounds like you're talking about drag racing ... which is a lot of wear and tear on any vehicle. I'm sure you could get away with a couple runs, i mean i rail mine like i'm drag racing sometimes! Haha!

Road Racing is what the bike was built for; if you're talking about this, then hell Yea! :headbang: Get it out there!

Once i get my bike in better shape i plan on doing a track day with it.

Every time i get on a straight away I nail the throttle. I must admit it is fun shifting around 10k

That's not drag racing, that's just operating the bike the way it was designed!

And if you think shifting at 10k is fun, try around 18k ...

The only way you could get a 600 to 18k is to back-shift at least 3 gears, and you'd probably float every valve and snap half your conrods. I ride a 250 ...
