660 engine?
OK so I was looking around because I have my bike tore apart and looking to rebuild the engine but wanted to see what other options I had and came across this post. "here is an engine mod that might work for you though. The 660 engine. It is a FZR600 lower end with the pistons and top end of the YZF600. It yields 661cc and about 105hp at the wheel." What do y'all think? Have y'all ever heard of this? Do y'all think this will work? I need help
and the wife might kill me by the time I am done.

Re: 660 engine?
I would love to pick up a spare engine and do a 660 build in my spare time. Ya, I think that would be pretty sweet. Fun too.

Re: 660 engine?
looking for a full list of parts needed to do the 660 build. i already have yzf head, pistons, jugs, and chain tensioner. just need to know what else i need
Re: 660 engine?
YZF head and base gaskets. Cylinder hone, new set of rings.
Otherwise, tha's all you need.
Maybe some plastigauge to check your rod bearings whilst you have your rods out

Re: 660 engine!!!
update: just put more parts on order...new clutch kit, cam chain tensioner gasket, head gasket, piston rings, valve cover gasket, wrist pin clips, and cam chain. finally convinced the wifey poo to let me put more money into it. she gave me a $1,200 allowance on top of the $400 i had in the fun account. just waiting for the money to transfer to order the rest. next to come is a V&H SS2R slip on, wheel bearings, chain and sprocket, stage 2 jet kit, and the complete gasket kit. granted the motor is still in 2 halves right now. but thats only because my buddy has been working like a slave and moving and his wife might be pregnant now. so debating on having him drop the case at a shop and have them pull it apart, clean it up, bore out the wrist pin holes, re-hone the cylinder walls and make preps to get it back together. i get to go home for thanksgiving and would love nothing more than to take a ride on my fresh rebuilt 660 and enjoy the road a little bit before i come out here. after i get the engine together probably going to start debating on the YZF swing arm and the R6 shock. but one thing at a time. if i had my way i could spend $2000 a month on parts and builds
. got offered a small turbo from an old mustang 4banger but idk if i want to try to push it like that granted that would be sick
. keep yall updated when i get more progress.

It's HOW IT IS DONE.
You CANNOT just throw bearing shells at it and call it good.

got the bearings out and they looked good until they ended up getting left in a coffee can outside and it started to rain on them last month and now they are pitted with rust. tried to clean them up for possible reuse but they are beyond saving now. i have been looking for the color stamp to find out which bearings i have. any clue on where it would be because i havent seen one yet but there are some numbers stamped into it but i dont think that is the sizing

Re: 660 engine?
reelrazor i hear you could be able to get the rods honed to fit the 4TV pins...is this true? i tired to do it while i was home and coulnd't get it done so i brought them to japan with me but never got a chance to get them to a shop over here working form sun up to after sun down. if you can do this how much would you charge?
Re: 660 engine?
I realise it's been almost a year, but you need to review your own thread. RR gave a link to his 660 build thread in his reply to your first post ...
