I went to my local cycle gear to buy tires for my FZR, only problem is that they don't have the right size. 150/60/18 rear and 110/70/17 front. (no tire set has that combination) They do however, have the bt014 battleaxe but only for the rear and even then they don't have it in store. They have to ship it from some other state and that rear tire alone would cost $250 . So right now I have the option of doing a bt014 (rear) and a bt023 (front) total cost with mounting would be (240+114+40)=$394 before taxes... or I can get the Shinko Podium 006 front and rear 150/60/18|110/70/17 for $230 mounted. My question is has anyone here used these tires on the FZR? Are they any good? I really don't want to spend $400+ on mismatched tires... any big differences between the Bridgestones and the Shinkos?

You can save money by taking the wheels off of the bike yourself an just bringing those in. If you are buying the tires from them, mounting and balancing should be free. They are making their money on the tire sale. Ask them how much to mount and balance a tire that you bring in. You can get pretty good deals online.

The Shinko 006 tires have mixed reviews. Nothing really negative, just that some people did not like them. Overall I'd say it's a decent tire (never used it myself) and given your options, I'd go with it.

My buddy put Shinkos on his FZR (having the same issues listed in this post) and he likes them a lot!

I've heard from a few sources that "The Shinko group purchased the motorcycle tire technology and molds from Yokohama Rubber Co" Yokohama is a great tire company. So you're basically getting a great tire without paying more for the brand name.

For general sporty riding this tire is more than good; when it comes time for my tires to be replaced, i'll likely go with Shinkos too. Can't beat the price!

I talked to Bike Bandit, they have the BT014 tires in stock in those sizes for $122 rear $92 front, free shipping. I bought a new set for my bike. I can't help with mounting, I have a snap on motorcycle tire machine and a snap on motorcycle wheel balancer, so mounting is free for me I think cycle gear mounts for about $30 a tire ? Not sure though.
