How serious an issue is this?

At the moment everytime I sort something out, I find two more problems! This is the back right part of the clutch cover and the engine housing it bolts into, snapped away. Do I need to buy a whole new engine to sort it? Or can I get someone to patch it somehow?

Or is it just not a problem at all?

Should I just try and get the place I bought it from to take it back or what? Is this a widespread issue? I feel so angry that I was sold a 'working bike' and I haven't been able to run it for one reason or another over three months.

When you post an image, you have to include the filename of the actual photo as well. You had the folders, but not the file. I edited it and the code looks like this ::

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the pic above and the notion that it's the 'back right' of the clutch cover, but anyway - you say it's the clutch cover, its the clutch cover. On to the important part.

The FZR uses a 'wet' clutch that rides in a bath of oil; that gaping hole will drain your engine oil about as fast as a thrown rod out the bottom. Fortunately, it's not a load-bearing section and can be remodeled with some JB Weld. I wouldn't bother trying to have it welded.

Here's the front view of the clutch cover, and it's the bottom right bolt that's missing. Sorry, should have made that more clear. (Although the image is displaying rotated 90ccw for no good reason).

Good news about the JB weld, that's given me some hope. I've got to push the bike to a garage next week for a service so hopefully I'll be able to get them to do that. I had fearfully started looking at engines on eBay.

I rode it 20 miles or so from the dealership I bought it from - do you think it will have done much damage in that time? There seems to be oil in the inspection window.

That is not the clutch cover.
It is the Generator, or as known in the UK;Alternator cover.
There is only fresh air inside, oh and an alternator :duh:
It can easily be repaired using JB Weld or similar repair epoxy/putty.
This damage is a common occurance when the bike is dropped on lhs and the generator cover takes the brunt.
Sometimes it is due to overtightening the fixing if the damaged cover is replaced.
The very early models had a gasket but it was omitted in later model revisions.
Repair at leisure.

Now why are you pushing your bike anywhere? and did you finish installing the remote reservoir brake caliper.?

Hey I saw this on facebook as well. I was thinking it also looked more like the stator cover. If so then yeah some jb weld and a little bit of sculpting will fix her right up. Might want to purchase a gasket to keep gunk out of there.

Oh man, I seriously thought that side was the clutch. I was studying the Haynes manual all night about it. Such a total noob.

Remote reservoir I'm still waiting for the mounting bracket from the US, but I got the thundercat MC and reservoir fitted and bled, so it shouldn't be a hassle to just clip the new brembo reservoir I fitted.

The minute I got the brakes working, the bike stopped turning over. I tried bump starting it a load of times to no avail. The bike's not where my tools are now as I'm moving between sublet accommodations and it's currently in a safe garage and I need a new rear tyre fitted, so I decided just to get it done at a garage down the road and get the carbs cleaned at the same time. Now I've moved I can hopefully drag the bike indoors to play with it, but all current repairs would be out on the street.

Once again thanks so much for the help and putting my mind at rest. I was about ready to punch through a wall!
