92 FZR 600 help!!! (was 92 FZR 1000 help!!!)
Okay, newb here. First time on the forum and only my second bike. I bought this bike and she has hard start issues. Once shes on and warmed up after a few miles, runs fine, but boggs in mid rpm's. i think the start issue is part choke problems and the bike being rich. I replaced the spark plugs and they were obviously showing signs of rich fuel. the carbs were just cleaned and sinked at dealership. Could the bogging in mid rpm's be from the bike having individual air filters on each carb and stock jets and exhaust?
Also, can anyone explain how i can verify that what i bought is in fact a 1000? Thanks in advance, sorry for all the newb questions!!!

Yes ...desmarat wrote:Could the bogging in mid rpm's be from the bike having individual air filters on each carb and stock jets and exhaust?
Also, check that your EXUP is properly set up and operating properly. Without a functioning EXUP, the big 1ks lose almost as much of their bottom and midrange as the tiny 250s!
The displacement (1003cm3) will be cast into the cylinder block on the left side. If it says 347cc, someone's transplanted in an RZ engine, and you need to worry about the YPVS, not the EXUP ...Also, can anyone explain how i can verify that what i bought is in fact a 1000? Re: 92 FZR 1000 help!!!
DonTZ125, thank you for the reply. i put the stock air box back on it and pulled the fuel filter and it was trashed. I have never seen one as bad as this, even off of my truck. And i will check the block as soon as i get home. maby sunday i will go through the exup and see what it looks like and adjust it. Thanks again!

Re: 92 FZR 1000 help!!!
If you bought what was advertised as a FZR1000 and have received an FZR600, IMHO this is grounds for both criminal and civil action.
That said, if you are satisfied with your purchase, replace the plugs and filters, change the oil, check and set the valve clearances - and ride!

Re: 92 FZR 1000 help!!!
got ripped off and will be going over to the house where i bought the bike and talking directly with the previous owner. But, will keep the bike, it was still a good buy. I have changed the plugs, changed the oil, and replaced the fuel filter(which was about to fall to pieces, almost crumbled when i touched the actual filter). DonTZ125, do you know a site that could walk me through the procedure to check the valves, never having preformed it I would like some instructions. Thanks man, you have been a big help!

Re: 92 FZR 1000 help!!!
Get the manual, read it. Do some searching here and over at the FZRArchives, read some of the pitfalls some of the other guys have fallen into. Checking and adjusting your valves is straightforward, but intricate - each step must be done in order, and done correctly. Broken valves, lunched pistons, snapped camshafts, and snapped camshaft caps are all possibilities - and so is a great running bike.
Take your time, take notes, take pics if you have to. Ask questions.

Re: 92 FZR 1000 help!!!
Okay, thanks man. After replacing the fuel filter, i no longer get the bogging. Once the bike is warm and moving, it cycles through gears and is pretty quick for a 600. However, after finding out that i got a 600 instead off a 1000 i want to upgrade it a bit. Jets, Exhaust, Intake... Is there a certain order to do these things? Can i put an exhaust without jetting? Jets without exhaust? Another thing, my exhaust valve (EXUP?) has been removed, what are the downsides, upsides if any applicable to that? Thanks a lot, i know i have a lot of questions!

92 FZR 1000 help!!!
Not sure about carbs and exhaust. I'm new to carbs and my bike I have already have aftermarket exhausts and carb work done. Not sure what your looking for. Low end, torque, top end. For more low end or torque you can always go down a tooth on the front sprocket, that's the cheapest and easiest. You'll lose a bit of top end but who ever uses that on the street?
Re: 92 FZR 1000 help!!!
ya, low end/torque. Can i replace the front sprocket and not the chain or rear sprocket? Will i loose any MPG,s?

Re: 92 FZR 600 help!!! (was 92 FZR 1000 help!!!)
Depends on the condition of the various parts. CAN you replace one particular part and not the others? Yes. SHOULD you replace one piece and not the rest? Well, if they're worn, you'll just be replacing the set (including your was-new front) sooner than otherwise planned. MPGs is a function of the right wrist more than the gearing until you hit 6th, but you'll probably have more fun with the shorter gearing, and more fun = reduced mileage.
ThatKid I believe sells chain and sprocket sets for a reasonable price. I'd suggest dropping from the OEM 530 chain to a 520 - it's cheaper, will handle the power of a 600, and is lighter / less rotating mass / improved acceleration.
Topic renamed and moved to the FZR600 section now that we know what bike you actually bought ...

92 FZR 600 help!!! (was 92 FZR 1000 help!!!)
Like don said, it depends on the shape of your chain and sprockets. On my fz6 I changed the front sprocket at 18000 miles and got about 35000 miles out of the chain then went stock front and +2 on the rear.

Thanks, wasnt sure how to change the topic name, and ill be talking to thatkid about chains!ThatKid I believe sells chain and sprocket sets for a reasonable price. Re: 92 FZR 600 help!!! (was 92 FZR 1000 help!!!)
I was just wondering what to do and in what order, or if i can upgrade one without upgrading all. My FZR6 runs like a champ now. A few $$$ and some good cleaning, and shes all good, runs like new. Just want to get the most out of her and dont have the money to do all 3 (intake, jets, and exhaust) at the same time. On that note, can you run a bike straight pipe like a truck or do i need to keep back pressure to save the motor?
I am going to do the 520 swap, just need to save some dough before i can do it. I got a wife, 3 kids, so free spending money is a little scarce! LOL
Can i just replace the front sprocket and get a noticable difference in off the line? If so, does anyone know of any sites that would sell them so i can take a look at it?
Thanks!
