Tires

Post by Baghr »

Hey all, I'm looking for a good place to pick up a front and rear for my 93 600. Like to hear of good/bad experiences with mail order places, and what to expect for pricing. I have a indie shop that will mount the tires and balance them at a reasonable price, just wanting to find a good place to buy them.

Thanks,
Baghr

maybe it's just around here, but most local dealers seem to have just about the same prices as the online stores. And if the tire is in stock, well, it's faster. And usually they can order and get the tire you need faster than a lot of online places.

As we've seen lately, some of these internet stores are not all they're cracked up to be.

There's some truth in that. But finding a place with excellent customer service, local OR online is not easy. If you find one, stay with them.

my local tire places for moto tires are dealers, huge ripoff and limited selection that doesnt need to be ordered anyways.

newenough has gotten probably a thousand of my dollars happily with nothing but great results

Thanks for the link, I'll take a better look when I have more time. I've found that due to the Fizzer's tire sizes not being that popular with modern sportbikes, they are usually pretty old or not in stock at the dealer anyway. It seems most places I've dealt with in the past (dealer or indies for that matter) don't make an order until except once a week or every couple of weeks. I can bet if I have to order parts from the local dealer, the largest in Iowa for that matter, it will take no less that two weeks to get the parts in, and that's if they don't forget to make the order which has happened to me in the past.

I'd just as soon get the tires, and then slip in to have them put on the rims. Last time I had tires put on, it cost me $20.00 total for mounting and balancing, and I got them done while I waited.

It will be hard to beat that.

http://www.cyclegear.com Usually good prices. They only charge like $15 or $20 (I think) to mount a tire if you take it to them. They even offer warrenty protection it you buy from them. Only problem is they don't always carry the correct size. Last time I bought BT014's from them, they had to order it. Took about a week to get it and they mounted it with-in a day. I've heard that there is a back order on the rear tire though.

the guys that work at cyclegear are GREAT. i haven't got tires from them yet, but anything else you can think of they are VERY helpful. not always the cheapest, but the attitude and help you get is worth paying a bit extra. next set of tires i need, i think i'll be ordering from them. thanks

Hmm, Will the 150 fit on my '93? I thought the largest it would handle was a 140. Stock rim, BTW.

It will fit. But there is a lot of conversation about wether or not it should be put there. I had one on my 3.5" '89 rim that I sent to tommyj27. The '90 or '91 and newer models all had 4.0" rims which the 150 fits onto easier.

Cool. I might go that route. Thanks for the tip.

Try out either bikebandit or motorcyclesuperstore.com, I just picked up a rear for 114 at motorcyclesuperstore. I would suggest taking your rear wheel off and taking it to them to mount the new tire instead of taking the bike and tire...It's normally about $20-30 cheaper.

Seeing how the wheels have been off the bike for about 7 years, that shouldn't be a problem. :grinnod: Heck, I've got to remember where the parts are to put them back on.

This ought to be an interesting documentary on how to revive a fizzer from the deep sleep. As this is my winer project, I'm now getting all my pieces together.
