A couple of tire questions

I was just wondering what is actually the correct tire size for 1995 FZR 600? My front tire is currently 110/70 R17 and the rear is 140/70 R18. The manual that I found online has slightly different numbers. And I was also wondering if anyone has any recommendations on good tires for this bike? Mine needs a new front one to get inspected and I will probably just have both of them changed. I heard that it's a good idea because it keeps them balanced. Is that just a load of crap? Thanks!

The things to look for are, apart from obviously the tread depth...
- the age of the rubber....in other words ,when they were made....look (closely) on the sidewall for crazing/small cracks but more importantly this info >

as far as tire combos i run a 11/70 17 front and 150/70/18 rear bt-016 and love them.. I would try to put a 160-60-18 on the rear but it would pinch and look funny so i heard and would need a slight mod to the rear brake bracket to avoid rubbing..

Stock size for your bike is 110/70/17 front and 140/60/18 rear. The 140 rear is not as easy to find as a 150 so most run a 150 with no issues.
Bridgestone BT016 is a great tire in 110/70/17 150/60/18

You could also try a 110/70/17 front and a 150/60/18 rear, Bridgestone BT014. It's fairly popular (apparently).
There's more info on this thread here:

I know I posted this a while ago, but I am just getting around to ordering my tires. I am considering the bt-106's but I can't find the rear tire with the correct size anywhere. I was also wondering how many miles can I expect to get out of these days? I won't be riding on the track or anything but I will be riding at decent speeds.

i got about 5k out og my bt 016 on the rear my front still hade another 1.5k left on them, but i rode double up about a 1k, i switched to bt014 and rode thema few times still breaking them in but i noticed the leanm feels smoother then the bt016 must be the lower profile?

I don't think the Bridgestone BT016 comes in a 150/60/18. I think it does have a 150/70/18 but IMO that's too high of a profile. I think the BT014 is your best bet. BTW I am particular to Bridgestone only because they have the widest selection of tires in our size and I support that. I know others have tried different tires and have had good success.

I have ordered the rear tire and was about to order the front tire off of eBay when someone else bought it. I am now having a pretty tough time finding a BT014 110/70/17. Any suggestions of where I might find one?

Wow it really seems that the 110/70/17 size is getting harder to find. If you can get a BT-090 that would be a good front tire.
I can't be of much help but there's a Bridgestone dealer with WERA (racing) that normally deals in race tires but he should be able to get you what you need. I don't know how he is on pricing though.

You could also try a Bt-023, it's probably the closest to the bt-014 and It might work. Both are radial so...

Similar issue here. My girlfriend just purchased a '94 FZR 600. Needs both tires, previous owner used it on the track and there's next to nothing left!

I'm in Ontario, Canada and haven't had too much difficulty finding the 110/70/17 for the front but holy crap! Try finding a 140/60/18! What's on there now is a pair of Battleaxe BT014's - Fr: 120/65/17, Rr: 150/60/18. Took me most of the day to track down the OEM specs - found a set of Pirelli's, Shinkos and Bridgestone (BT014's) - didn't get the model of the other tires. So, I know they're out there but apparently it's the rear 18" that gives the most grief, at least in my neck of the woods.
I certainly didn't expect tires to be such an issue when we got the bike. Here's a question however, if we change out the rim for a 17", simply because tires are more common, what does this do for the ride? Does anything else have to be changed out - IE sprockets, brakes?
Cheers,

For me it was the opposite. I had a hard time finding the front tire and got lucky and found the rear tire in 150/60/18 on eBay right away. I've had them on for about 3,000 miles now and they are good tires but it sure was more trouble than it should have been to find them. The tires on my bike before were Pirelli Sport Demon's and they seemed like fairly decent tires and they are much easier to come by than the BT014's. If you must have the BT014's I would check eBay from time to time and hope you can find it or if you dig deep enough I am sure they are for sale somewhere on the internet. If not the Sport Demons might not be that bad of a tire. Hopefully someone else can help about modifying because I am afraid I have no idea about that. Good luck!
