I just got a 98 fzr 600 and it needs some work. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if r1 or r6 fairings wilk work on this bike. It has been lowered so I can fit. Im not to sure how much but I am only 5'4 and i can put my feet flat down. Any suggestions? Please and thanks!

You can make them fit, and fit well... BUT this will not be Plug and Play or a simple Bolt on.

If you want to invest the time, Trim some pieces and move the mounting points around, you will be able to do it.

There are several people that have had success. I have attached a link that shows and 87 FZR400 with R6 plastics.

Make it happen and please take pics, and write up how you did it for the rest of us!

As the saying goes anything is possible with time and money. How good yours turns out depended on how much you have of each, along with some skill of course.

Agreed

I swapped the tail on mine to a 99 R6 tail and it was very easy. The costs involved are minimal, if you can find a tail in decent shape for cheap. One thing to think about is the tank. I've seen a few pictures and videos of FZRs with updated R6 plastics on them. Most were done really well and looked great. However, there are several that spent all that time and money making their FZR look more updated and ruined it (IMHO) by leaving the stock tank cover on there. The YZF 600 tank swap is pretty simple as well. And, matches up to the R6 seat great. The FZR tank cover just doesn't look right with newer plastics. This is where i got my inspiration and guidance. http://heath.agdog.com/fzr/workbench/r6_tail_yzf_tank/ I didn't do any other fairings, as mine is nekkid. But, I think this one looks great with the original front and upgraded tank and tail. Just a thought. :)

I didn't look into doing newer R6 or R1 plastics. I know it can and HAS been done. But as said before, it's all about how much time, money, and skill you have to throw at it. Good luck and post up some progress pics when you get going.

ii appreciate the.inpunt and ive decided i like the look of the r1 a tad more. i just dont know what yeat.would be best to use for the fzr. im guessing its whatever i want to use and ill have to make it fit. i just dont want to speed a lot on something thats not going to work or just come out horrible. alsoif i get the kit for the r1 do i need a r1 gas tank? i apologize for the rambling and millions of questions but any help is greatly apprrciated. ive only had the bike for a couple of weeks and it is completly black with only a front and tail fairing. i dont want to ride it being that dark of a bike an me being so small. ive seen the airtech conversion kits and know thats probably easier but the one headlight deal is off..it just dosent look right. if anyone knowa a good year to use and if the gas tank and seats have to be from changed and if they have to be the same year as the fairings.thannks.

FYI, a quick search of the site will yield pages upon pages of information dealing with this exact question. That being said...

You don't have to use any specific tank, as they aren't connected, in any way, to the fairing. The question is how well that tank is going to match up to the the FZR frame. And also, how much work it's going to be to get it mounted. The best fitting tank that I've seen is the YZF 600 tank. But, if you swap the tail and DON'T swap the tank, with a different seat you'll be left with a gaping hole right in front of your crotch. No big deal other than the looks. Of course, patching the hole with some cloth and resin is a pretty simple task. But, then you're left with a seat that doesn't really match up to the tank. The Airtech kit is designed to work WITH the stock seat and tank. And with some effort and a little know how, you could put a second headlight on the other side. I'm with you on that one. I hate the single light on one side. You could always just do the Airtech R1 tail conversion and paint everything to the color of your choice. I personally think that's a great look on the FZR. After all, the most dated part of the FZR is the tail. And, if you're just wanting a more updated look, I think that's a very good option. Not to mention it won't cost NEARLY as much as going with the full kit.

But, in all honesty, it might be a better choice to just leave it be and get it painted if you don't like the color. I'm not trying to be a dick. But, I'd hate to see this thread continue for months and months because you ended up biting off a little more than you could chew. I did that on my last bike and regretted it. I just dove right in and started swapping this and that and before I knew it, I was six months into a project that had no end in sight. The R1 and R6 are much better looking, to some. And I can certainly see why you'd want your bike to look like that. I wish mine had all the stock fairings on it when I bought it. The only reason I did the tank and tail swap is because my bike was naked and is going to stay that way. And the stock tail looks horrible on a "street fighter" style. If I were in your shoes, with all the stock stuff, I'd get a paint job that I like and call it a day. I LOVE a nice stock FZR. And a decent paint job is going to really make it look amazing. And, it could work out to be bit cheaper and would work out to be a LOT less heartache than doing any fairing/tank swapping. But hey... Just my my2cents

P.S. I refuse to respond further until we see some PICS! Let's see this two wheeled beauty you're workin' with. I know we've all seen FZRs before. Hell, we own them. But we still wanna see everyone else's. :D
