Won't turn over after crank case replacement
I just replaced my peanut crank case cover yesterday, and tried to start my bike, and got nothing. It didn't even try to turn over; it just made a single click. I pressed and held the start button, and after about 20 seconds it started to make a repetative click. I replaced my battery thinking that was the problem, and it didn't work. All the lights and signals and everything work just fine, I just can't get the bike to turn over. I'm hoping I didn't somehow mess something up while replacing the cover? Or hopefully my starter isn't done for? Anybody have any suggestions?
Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
Was the bearing that supports the outer end of the starter gearing in the replacement cover?

No, it didn't come with a bearing, but I took the old one out of the broken cover and put it in the new one.

Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
Have you tried to bump start it? Tried rocking the bike with it in second gear??? Might just be a bit stuck. If you try and bump it but the back wheel locks up then you should really take the peanut cover off and have a look!

Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
Got it figured out this morning. Took the crank case cover off and noticed the bearing wasn't pushed in all the way! It was putting too much force on the starter, and prohibiting it from turning. I took her out for a ride tonight, and the road was a little too cold for the turn I would normally make into my driveway. I dropped it, and BROKE MY BRAND NEW CRANKCASE COVER AGAIN! Just my luck.

Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
Not really. That cover cost me $150. (kind of a lot for me. Lol) but yea, shit happens. I think the bike may just be a bit too big for me. I might end up selling it when spring comes along.
Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
I saw your other thread on lowering. Did you not get it lowered a little? That's a very cheap and easy way to get that seat down a little.
EDIT: Never mind. I just looked again and you were asking about brakes and tires and the conversation turned into dog bones and frame geometry. If you haven't tried it, I say give it a shot. It'd be a shame to sell your bike because you're not comfortable on it. Especially if there's an easy solution.
EDIT #2: I just saw that I was looking at the wrong thread and you DID have a thread about lowering. I'm an idiot...

Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
A peanut cover for a 600? I must be searching wrong... The lowest I've ever seen them for was like $120. I've just went and searched for "fzr600 peanut cover" on ebay, and couldn't find any below that price. Hopefully I'm just terrible with key terms

Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
Also, Brandon, I don't think lowering it would help me out any. My feet are both flat on the ground after shaving my seat down, and I still seem to be having problems with it. It's almost as if every time I get on the bike, I get filled with fear of dropping it, and always end up doing what I fear. It's always with sharp right turns; I've never dropped it on its left side. (which I'm thinking is because my left leg is stronger, as it's dominant) I really... really.. don't want to get rid of my bike, especially after just going through all that work of painting it the way I wanted it to look, and with it being my first bike, I'd feel like I'm giving up, but I might just have to.

Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
In my experience, eBay prices are very often over-inflated. I recently saw a set of FZR600 forks up for $1000!!! Yeah, that's just one example, but I see it all the time. You're better off scouring CL and the forums.mmoore005 wrote:A peanut cover for a 600? I must be searching wrong... The lowest I've ever seen them for was like $120. Re: Won't turn over after crank case replacement
Oh, man. That's a drag. Even if you do get rid of it, that doesn't mean you have to give up. You can go with something a little lighter and easier for you to handle at slower speeds. Something like a Smaller dual sport. Those things are TONS of funs. And, if you ever get a hankerin for some trail riding, you've already got a bike for it. Or maybe an older Ninja 250/500. They're not going to be nearly as "peppy" as the FZR. But still fun bikes. And they're silly cheap. Great thing about that is you can buy one for a grand, beat on it while getting your confidence up to where you aren't thinking about dropping it every time you ride, and then turn around and sell it for a grand. Those things are widely regarded as one of the best beginner bikes ever. And, in my opinion, if all you're really doing is commuting to and fro and not really needing to feel the crazy rush of a bigger bike, they're perfect. Hell, if I could tuck my legs in, I would have one. I'm 6'6". I've ridden the older and newer Ninja 250 and really liked both. I just wasn't comfortable enough to justify the purchase. And, who gives a crap what anyone thinks? People will tell you all day long that a 250 is for little girls and wimps and yadda yadda yadda. I say, ride what feels good and get's you to point B. Anything else is just fluff. You've gotta ride it. So, ride what ya like.mmoore005 wrote:Also, Brandon, I don't think lowering it would help me out any. I feel like I went way off the topic there. But, what I'm trying to say is, even if you do feel like you need to get rid of the FZR, give some other bikes a shot. I'm a firm believer that there's a perfect bike out there for everyone. You might have to go through a few before you find it. But, it's out there.
