Ok I have been all over the web and I have 2 issues. My stock Front tire is 110/70R17 which is not to hard to find but my rear tire 140/60VR18 seems to be damned near impossible. I was actually only to find Shinko which I am told is not a great tire. Does any one know 100% what sizes I can substitute for both?
Also, What brakes should I buy. I don't want super cheap junk brakes I want good quality. Not to worried about price because I want that thing to stop on a dime if need be.
Thanks
P.S. If anyone has any pics of a modified LED taillight Assembly that I can get some ideas off of please let me know.
i have a 160/60-18 on the rear of my 600, and a 120/70-17 on the front. it was on there when i got it, but I know a 150 will fit perfectly on the rear.
as for the brakes, I have had great long lasting durability with the kevlar. but different location temps will have great adverse effects on how long they last. it an average of about 65 to 95 degrees where im at, the cooler outside it is, the easier it will be on the pad material as it will keep them cooler than say on a 90 degree stop and go. below is the ones I use, and have had them for about 3yrs now. Im in the middle of a complete rebuild and did not ride at all this past season tho.....it says "95" but as long as they are the original calipers these fit great.

the problem with the 160 is they pinch, gives them great turn in but compromised grip at a full lean. a 150/60 gives you good grip and clearance and a 150/70 fits and raises the rear by a hair with more sidewall but runs out of tire before you round out of ground clearance. I run a 150/70 bt016 and a 110/70 of the same up front. The 110 front is stock and gives noticeably better turn in due to less rotating mass, I've run the 120 and the 110 up front. The 18" rear the is bane of an fzr owners existence and you'll find a few options for ways to change it out.
Will, Your right with that the width and sidewall height will adversly effect the cornering ability, but you left out the combination of rider weight and height and If the suspension height has been changed, then these seem to be the most important in determining the ability of the turn/lean angle. But your on the right level of thinking. Im not sure if either of us bothered to ask what kind of riding he will most likely be atempting (City-Mountain Hills-Track)...etc. My riding style will differ from say yours or his, so a combination of the info we have given him im sure will help him out alot.
I actually like the 160 on the 18" wheel but thats me, I run a set of Michelin Pilot Power Road 2 .
meteorman2 I would ask a local dealer about how you plan to ride and what would be best for your aplication. But be careful of the "sales pitch" anyone can give you an idea of what the best is going to be, but ultimately its up to you to decide what you like and how you want it to feel to you.....Good luck

I have to wonder how much the difference in turn-in has to do with the increase in radius of the tire. I also have to wonder that raising the tubes in the clamps might offset this, or the increased effort due to greater rotating mass.

I dont think its so much the radius, but more the width that will effect the turn-in "and/or" lean angle ability. Raising the front, or lowering it will increase or decrease the top heavy effect and will change the lean ability. Speed will have to be a factor as well, All sized riders can lean the same bike just as much as the other, but will require less speed to (centrifical force) in the turn for a heavier rider.....

Raising and lowering the tubes is just affecting geometry of the bike, racers for years lowered through the tubes for quicker turn in. I remember hearing I think it was shred discovered the R1 forks were shorter than the fzr ones and made a big difference, same as if you lowered on the tubes.
The 110 front end also has a much rounder profile than the 120 which appeared almost blockish in comparison, that could affect it too. Regardless, the 110 moved my turn in points forward by a good bit. Just made it so much easier and quicker.
HS600. At the risk of a thread jack (as if we haven't already) , could you post a pic of the tire form on the pilot road 2? Perhaps it'll help the OP in his shopping choices as well. I just happen to be due for new rubber soon myself and was thinking of changing it up.
And mm, as for tires I'd recommend either the BT016 or the Avon Storm. Both have good results and touring compounds on either part or all of the tire so if its not going to be a corner carver most of the time it won't wear out as quickly. The BT014 is a good dry weather tire but didn't like it in the rain and flat spotted pretty easily riding around town. Flat spotting if you're not aware is where your tire develops a flat spot from riding on one portion that adversely affects the handling.
