Frame sliders? Lowering?
So... As you can see by my profile avatar; I'm not exactly a tall person, and I tend to lay my bike down a tad more often than I would like to.
I'm just scrolling through and see a lot about frame sliders not working for the FZR? Am I just jumping to conclusions too quickly, or...?
Also, I just recently laid my bike over (very lightly) and my crankcase cover just broke... Is this common? I feel like it broke way too easily, this was probably the lightest it's ever been laid over.
I also want to lower it, as I'm having to have my legs completely stretched out, just to keep my feet on the ground when stopped (I figure lowering it would help me to stop laying it over). How would I go about doing this? Is it a hard and expensive process? Side note; I know some forums have specific places to post things, and I'm new here, so I just wanted to apologize beforehand if this is the wrong place for this post.

Re: Frame sliders? Lowering?
Your post is in the right spot, welcome if I haven't said it already. The peanut cover is quite common to break since it sticks out the furthest on the right hand side. If I were you I would get ahold of a man named thatkid on here. I know he has frame sliders on his bike but I don't know if he sells them. He will also have a replacement cover for you if you want one. And I think he makes adjustable dog bones. If not then reelrazor does, I have a set of his. They are very inexpensive but I don't remember what they cost. That will lower the back end with a stock fzr shock. However I will caution that if you lower the rear and not the front your gyroscopics will be slightly skewed (it's either trail or rake I can't remember, someone will chime in on that one) and you will have to lower the front by raising the forks through the upper and lower triple trees.

The peanut cover breaking is pretty common as Chris said. I also do have lowering dogbones and powder coated peanut covers. I can make some bolt on race rails if you are interested although they don't work with fairings. I do have some other cover protectors that will work with fairings although they aren't done yet. I'll be back in town on the 25th and can help you out more then if you need things.

Re: Frame sliders? Lowering?
Hi Welcome to our Forum,
Chris is right if you lower the bike by using custom "dog bones" at the rear you must also drop the fork tubes thro the triple clamps. If you only lower the back as Chris said you will ruin the "flickability" of the FZR
and the front wheel will tuck under in a turn and throw you off.
Chris has mentioned both of our top sources for lowering kits and spare parts (and a whole side more :-}
Good luck and let us know how you get on, if you get stuck you know where to ask.............

Re: Frame sliders? Lowering?
Thanks so much, guys. I actually know a guy that has a few covers, and he'll be selling me one by the weekend with a set of mirrors for $20. pretty nice guy, and you guys have a really nice community. Glad to have joined. All the advice on lowering is really helpful. I'll definitely look into those dogbones and I'm a little interested in those race rails, even though I've just recently finished painting my bike. How exactly do those look?

Hm... They look really nice, but I'd rather keep my fairings. @thatkid, I'll keep the fairing compatible ones in mind when you return on the 25th.

I'm also not the tallest as well...My bike was previously owned by a female who is shorter than I and was lowered so she can touch the ground.
She told me that she swapped the dog bones from an R6 which is shorter than the FZR. You can pehaps buy these dog bones on ebay. I can sit on the FZR and flat foot the ground.

That's great to know. How tall exactly are you? I was thinking about getting some adjustable dog bones, but that sounds like an option. I'm only 5'7".

Shorter dogbones would raise the bike. Also the r6 bones are very thick. If they were used, different bolts would also have to be used. Even my bones at 1/4" you can't use the washers if you want the locknut to engage properly.

Re: Frame sliders? Lowering?
At 5'7", you should be able to have good footing on the FZR as is. I believe my bike was lowered about 1" and I'm able to flat foot (with work boots on) sitting on it. I'm only 5'5". The previous owner also lowered the front crown/bars about .5" but I raised them back up b/c it felt too low and the levers hit the fairing when turning.mmoore005 wrote:That's great to know. As for the R6 dog bones, I don't know how it was done but I know they sell lowering bones for the FZR ebay.
Good luck!

I should also mention that once your bike is lowered, you'll need to be careful how to park the bike b/c the kickstand will not let your bike lean as much.

Re: Frame sliders? Lowering?
As tk said shorter bones raise the bike. I won't tell you to not get the r6 ones but I will say that if you get adjustable ones and lower the bike, then later on if you want to ride two up you could always shorten the bones and raise the tail back up so that you don't bottom out your suspension. Just food for thought.

Thanks for that info guys. If you're 5'5", and can easily flat foot, I suppose I just have short legs or something? Anyhow... I'll just end up getting adjustables. Now I just have to find some sliders or fairing compatible rails, and I'll be good. You guys are awesome...

Hi,Crying Freeman wrote: I know they sell lowering bones for the FZR ebay.Good luck!
the Ebay versions that have 3-4 holes are a VERY weak design there is insufficient "meat" between the holes which are too big for the standard bolts and the resultant sloppy fit will gradually "saw" away the metal between holes resulting in a catastophic failure.
