Pulled into the driveway and my brother was yelling at me to turn it off. I looked back and it was pouring smoke under the tail of the bike.

Took the rear fairings off and found this piece smoking and burnt. What is this? What caused it to happen?

I would look up the numbers but they are burnt.

This is located on the left side (if your sitting on bike) at the back if the bike behind the rear left fairing.

This is on a 93 fzr 600

That is your voltage regulator. VR. Bike prior to 95 ha the crappy "candy bar" style. You need to replace it with one preferably from an r6 a search in the wiki for VR replacement will tell you everything. Also if that fried I would check your battery and fuses.

Chris.

As far as what caused it to burn up like that, simply POOR DESIGN. Look up an R6's VRR and compare it to yours. Notice the cooling fins/fans which add tons of surface material which allows for faster cooling. This is probably one of the most commonly occurring defects on the FZR. There is tons of info on this forum as kilika noted above. It's a very simple fix though. Just buy a compatible VRR and do the electrical mod/install. I'm in the process of upgrading my FZR right now. I got an 06 YZF VRR for about $45 on ebay in good condition.

eBay is fine. I bought one from a salvage yard. Dominicporeno or something. The chop shop was the name of his shop. It think it was in Florida.
