Grinding noise when let off throttle.

Hi guys, new to the forum. I just bought a 95 fzr 600 about a month ago. I've been riding it almost everyday and it's ran great. Except now its starting to make a grinding noise when I back off the throttle. It only makes the noise until I pull in the clutch. So when I let off the throttle without touching anything else it makes the grinding noise and jerks a little bit until I pull in the clutch then it smoothes out. Take off and cruising is fine. If anyone has any suggestions on what it might be or what I could check I would appreciate it.

Check your chain for tight spot and also check your cush drive, these are the simplest options to start with

What do you mean a tight spot? And what is a cush drive?

Does your chain move freely or is there a 'tight spot' in some links? Cush drive are the rubber pieces in the rear hub. Are they in good condition? I'd recommend checking out the counter shaft sprocket cover. I would bet that thing is packed with crap. When that happens you will get a grinding sound.

A tight spot is where the links in the chain aren't able to move freely, if the tight spots are really tight you can visually see them 'stuck' in one position. Your cush drives are bits of rubber bushings that dampen the movement within your rear wheel hub. To get the them, remove your rear wheel and lay it down on two bits of wood with the disc facing downwards (the wood stops the disc from touching the floor and potentionally warping). With the sprocket facing you, your able to check wiggle the sprocket and its holder loose, exposing the cush drive rubbers, they should be triangular in shape and one solid lump of rubber. HTH
