So this P.O was not a bright one I'm finding out.

anyways heres what I have done, basically tore out all the rear end left nothing but a frame, pulled the wiring harness. labelled all my connectors. pulled just about everything other than the major mechanical stuff.

Im going to tear open the wiring and replace and repair whatever i need too, there was some wires I had to cut, becuase the PO spliced them together instead of using a connector... so im going to add a few connector points also, so easy installing and removing.
the wires dont look too bad, but a tail light bulb exploded and burned.

I have a longer list of parts now that im removing everything and can see under its skin lol,
although! stainless braided brake lines! lol...

anyways here are some pictures of today! ill have more of the bike tomorrow, it just got dark before i knew it.

There is alot more taken apart than in the photo.

time to start cleaning what im going to keep!

Removed alot more today, all the cooling equipment, the carbs and a few little things. Cleaned as much as i could with a rag and soapy water, i need some degreaser to really get a lot of whats left.
Going to start overhauling what im going to be re using soon.
as soon as I get something too hold the bike, I will be removing the swing arm and forks.
The engine is supposedly good, so I really dont want to tear that out unless I have too. it reads 20k, Havent checked the plugs yet, but going to my next wrench session.

The list of parts is steadily increasing lol...
so hopefully I wont be too far in over my head with this one :)
anyways here is a few pics from today.

How does that heatwrap for exhaust work? would you guys recommend it? Id rather just wrap this rusty header than paint it.

If you're ready to buy parts let me know. I can most likely outfit you with everything but fairings.

removed all the brake equipment and the header.
the front brake pads were so gross and one of the actual pads fell off from the backing lol.
stainless braided brake lines for the front though, so thats cool!
the header is so rusty but im sure it will clean up fine and look decent after I put some high temp paint on it. I think im going to get some wrap and silicone spray and just try that for shits and giggles. if anything im just spending 30 bucks on it all.

started cleaning a lot of my parts also.

Now I just really want to take off the chain and swingarm so I can take a look at that rear assembly and clean it up.
And the next thing after that is probably taking off the fork assembly so I can go over all that good stuff also.

I should probably do the wheel bearings while im at it.
the fork seals look to be good, but i guess i wont know if they leak until I really put some pressure on them.
the maintube bearings i think? or whatever they are seem to be fine also. at least i think for now... lol

I don't really want to take the engine out, so I am really hoping its fine.. I should take a compression test first. the spark plugs look reaaaally oily so I hope no valves/seals/or gaskets have to be replaced.

The tires just look old, so those are soon too replace also.

My living room;p

one question though,
After I took the header off, 5 of these came out? im wondering why 5 and not 4? :p

So my bike has 4 piston calipers in the front, does that mean it is not a 89? or when did they introduce the 4 pistons? 90..91?

Yeah, 90 plus had the 4 pistons. A lot of people swap the forks for better brakes. And now you can buy r6/r1 calipers and bolt them on.

Heatwrap is for keeping the heat in the pipes and out of a car's engine bay; its use / benefit is limited for bikes. Also, since the wrap will keep any rainwater against the pipes for far longer than it would otherwise take to dry, your pipes will corrode that much faster. Take a wire wheel to clean off the heavy crap, then a light sand, then 2 thin coats of barbeque rust paint.

AND THATS WHERE IM AT SO FAR:)
Lookin' pretty darn good, actually!

DUDE! you absolutely have no idea!!!
I live in a studio apartment in downtown long beach.
I pulled my bike into the three foot wide little back patio area I have, got a milk crate. set that bike on there and start taking it apart.

Remember my studio apartment? Well thats over half full of motorcycle parts... hahah its getting bad..
At least I am getting stuff I need:)

scored a bunch of cool shit, another tank cover. in perfect condition.
a rear set of fairings, one has a crack in it.
a vance/hines rear left. (thought i was getting the right also, the dude had the photo but not the item i guess...)
