Re: What's your MPG ?
i've tried all the octane levels in the 400. i also tried 2 ounces of marvel mystery oil in each one too. i seem to get the best results with mid grade octane and 2 ounces of marvel mystery oil. with 87, i get a no so happy idle. i have 31.5k on the clock.
as far as mileage, i only calculated it once. 25% of the tank was slabbing down route 15 at 60mph, while the other 75% was goosing it around on back roads. so not too hard on the throttle. i got 48.4 on that tank. i weigh 173 and had 25psi/f and 32psi/r that day. (3psi lower than recommended on the frame -- as i thought we would be holding a faster pace that day)

Re: What's your MPG ?
I've heard that ethanol bumps up the octane level in gas.
So, by purchasing 87 octane fuel with ethanol...your actually getting closer to 90.
Anyone know or hear about this?

Re: What's your MPG ?
Just got 37MPG this last tank. 17,xxx miles. Mods listed below. 200lbs. That's riding about 75 on the freeway. Sometimes I go 90 or more, but mostly I stick to 75. Rarely do I get to the twisties. Sure would love to get somewhere around 50MPG. I'm planning on getting a DRZ400SM soonish. That'll be my fuel saver.

Re: What's your MPG ?
Ethanol will bump up the octane rating of fuel, possibly giving you a few extra hps, but it's overall energy content is lower than gasoline, giving you lower gas mileage. (Diesel has higher energy content. Therefore, better gas mileage.).
My FZR turns out 49 mpg pretty regularly with mostly freeways and 17k mi. using mid- or premium-grade gas.

Re: What's your MPG ?
Heh, I'm quoting myself. I just wanted to give an update on my MPG. I've started riding at about 65 on the freeway and that got me up to a little over 51 MPG on the last tank of gas. I think my main jet might be too rich since sustained high speed seems to foul my plugs. That would account for the 30% drop in fuel economy when riding around at 80+Fraidknot wrote:Just got 37MPG this last tank. 17,xxx miles. Mods listed below. 200lbs. Re: What's your MPG ?
i've just done my bikes fuel consumption. it's a 1992 fzr 600 3HE. is has around 51k km. the fuel consumption is 5.6 l/100 km. I don't know how much is that in MPG but for me is good, considering that i have't synchronized the carbs.

Re: What's your MPG ?
I average about 30-35mpg
I'm 230lbs and the bike has about 28,000miles
unfortunately, 80% of my driving is to/from work which is stop-and-go for about 2 miles in city traffic... when I get out on the weekends, every stop sign is followed by 11,000rpm

Re: What's your MPG ?
I get between 30 and 35 mpg and I'm a bit frustrated by it. I don't understand I've gone through the carbs numerous times. I have a dynojet stage 1 jet kit with 112 mains, k&n drop in air filter, and an SS2R slipon. This is with stock gearing too. I looked at my emulsion tubes and they seemed fine, but I guess I could order new Factory Pros and give it a shot. If not that I don't know.
It's got 26000 on the clock and I think I'm burning a little oil through the valve stems because the oil gets low between changes and the cylinders all had at least above 160 psi. I also can't get a steady idle without choke unless it's warmed up, even on hot days.
That's my rant...

Re: What's your MPG ?
1994 600, I pretty much get 40mpg and am good friends with the throttle. Running 93 with a D&D slip on. Weigh in @ 285 dressed and I'd estimate it has 35k.
Re: What's your MPG ?
I just got 50 mpg out of my last tank.
That was mostly 60 mph with some twisties. I'm probably ~165 lbs geared up.
My FZR is ALL stock, even the pipe, 1,700 on the odo.
I'm doing a 900 mile trip to Ohio and back this weekend, so I'll see what that gives me. (Route 50 all the way)

Re: What's your MPG ?
surprisingly pleased... got 37mpg on my last take. about 120 miles were cruising, but BAD cruising (lots of stops, and dirt roads)... the rest was all stop-and-go traffic, mostly 2-3mile rides at a time.
If I did longer commutes, I could probably get away with 40mpg. Still worse than some new cars, but they can't get to 100mph nearly as fast, either :p

Re: What's your MPG ?
On the first half of my DC-OH trip this weekend, I got 51 and 56 on two tanks, 414 miles.
That is a mix of real nice WV twisties and some 70 mph highway riding. Pretty damn good though!
