Give the rotors a good clean before the new pads ..... scotchbrite pads and maybe a little brake cleaner to get the glaze and grunge and any rust off .....do it a few times and u will be surprised how dirty the cleaning rag will be.
Run plenty of new fluid thru them as u bleed...dont re use what comes out.
Make sure u bed the new pads in ....usually has a how to on the packaging.
Heres my before and after with a little spit and polish....

The blue dots should fit. I have a spare set of 03 brakes, master, and r6 forks for my 05 FZ6. If I get a chance ill see if the brakes fit on the 96 600 and the 91 1000.

If I can get my calipers looking as good as your BEFORE pictures, I'll be happy. They're almost solid black with crud and dust and grit. Disgusting.GreyImport wrote:

Oh, it's probably going to turn out to be a total turd. I've got no skill at all. As far as imagination, I'm not really tackling anything that hasn't been done and documented. And,I feel pretty confident standing on the shoulders of giants. I'm not going to go nuts and do anything innovative or radical here. Just using proven methods to update this ole bag of bolts.HybridSport600 wrote:Fzr's are the most sought after 90's import today and I have seen many hack mods and such, will be interesting to see your mind unfold on this bike. That link is dead. I found it a while back on another forum. I sent him an email as well but haven't heard anything back. I just figured it got passed over or he's really busy.

Re: This will be the slowest build thread in history!!!
Started stripping the wheels today. I got good results from painting the wheels on my last bike. So, I figured I'd give it a go on this one as well. I remember trying the airplane stripper on my last wheels and it w just didn't work out. So, I started sanding and sanding and sanding on these. After about an hour, I had one wheel down to a hazy black finish (they're painted black). I wasn't making any headroom. Of course, it doesn't help that whoever painted these things did a HORRIBLE job. There must have been 15 coats of black on there. And the front had a very bumpy texture. But only in some spots. Originally I thought maybe they used bed liner or something on there. But the sporadic nature of the texture indicates otherwise. More than likely just a rush job that didn't involve any prep work what-so-ever. At least they used something that stuck on there...
Anyway, I decided to give the chemical strip another shot. I went to the auto parts store and bought some stuff made by Klean-Strip. It says that it starts working in 15 minutes. Ok, I'll spray it on and let it sit for a while and come back to it. But when I hit the paint with that stuff, it immediately started lifting and bubbling. AWESOME! I gave it another 5-6 minutes to do it's magic. It worked so much better than the last time I tried this. So, after scraping off what I could and using a rag for the rest, I got all of the wet crap off and started sanding with a disc on my die grinder. I'd be done by now if my compressor could keep up. But, after about an hour of stop and go with the die grinder, this is where I am. Keep in mind, this was just some aircraft stripper and about 10 total minutes of sanding.
I should have both wheels ready for paint by tomorrow morning. I've decided to go with sort of a gunmetal for the wheels. I'm sure after doing that, I'm going to want to do the frame to match. Oh well, I wanted a winter project.

Oh, and as you can see, these were painted more than once in their lifetime. There's some funky fresh red under there, too. Can't wait to be done with this part. Sanding and painting are my least favorite things to do. I'd rather watch Bieber dance for eight hours.

Re: This will be the slowest build thread in history!!!
Hooked up my Koso speedometer today... Freakin screen was all wonky. Fantastic... So, I bought a Trail Tech Vapor. I had one on my SV650 and loved it. So, I guess it's good that I get to use something that I know I'll like. And they're simple to hook up. Now I have to decide on a headlight. I'm leaning towards the Omnia Racing Headlight. I haven't seen an FZR with one. But I've never seen a bike that looked bad with one. Here's a pic of the headlight, for those who haven't seen it before.

my bike is nekkid. those look like they go with a faired bike. i bought it without front fairings so i'm keeping it like that. don't want to fuss with sourcing all the parts to go back to stock.

That headlight looks like one off the Yamaha MT-03. Great looking light unit. I'd say go for it

I was finally able to mount the blue dots and they bolt up to the 96 600 and the 91 1000. I didn't have pads in cause I need to rebuild the calipers.
Re: This will be the slowest build thread in history!!!
Sweet. I was able to just clean mine up and install new pads. They seem to be working fine. I still have some things to button up before I can get out and ride. But, they've got good pressure, all pistons are moving and I've got no leaks.Redoliander wrote:I was finally able to mount the blue dots and they bolt up to the 96 600 and the 91 1000.
