If the old transistors didn't need insulators, (or if they did and you didn't re-install them) you've possibly just shorted out the collectors. You may or may not damage the BIPs - they're very rugged! - but I wouldn't think the circuit would work worth a damn.
Undo the mounting screws and pull up the new transistors a bit. Smear the mica insulators with a teeny dab of heat transfer grease (both sides), then slip the insulators between the transistors and the heat sinks. Install whichever bolts you like, but you should use the collars that came with the kits. Let me know how it goes!
Oh, yeah - 'insulators' =/= 'resistors'. Very different role...
