slippery clutch..

I am having problems with my clutch not disengaging, I adjusted as per book, Is there somehting I may be missing. My clutch lever is stiff but it pulls the clutch in. any idea why this might be.

If the bike has not been run for a long time the fibres stick to steels.rocking bike back and forward to brake free then ride the clutch for a while in 2nd.
If this fails need manually spreed(remove cover etc(new gasket maybe required))
sometimes wrong oil type.eg not motorcycle oil.
Bit more background info would be handy.

Old thread FTW. I just did an oil change and my clutch doesn't want to shift much. Sometimes it works, but if I play with it for too long, it stays in one gear (only tried this in first) and the only way to get it out is to ride it out a few feet. I am using 20-50 valvoline motorcycle oil with the proper filter. Any suggestions?
