Compression test

Hi all ,
I've been having trouble getting my bike started. After a while of cranking it will eventually start. I did a check on valve clearence because I don't know the mileage on my bike. I have less than 0" on intake and under the spec on exhaust. All in all the valves are extremely tight. Did a compression check. From cyl.1 I have 28,40,27,42 psi. That's way low. The bike doesn't smoke so I know the rings are not bad. Bike doesn't make any serious noises. So my ? Is valve adjustment? What exactly should they be? I'm thinking .003-.005 intake and .005-.008 exhaust. Any thoughts? I ordered a hot cams shim kit

yeah do the valve lash. See what's going on from there. Clearances are in the manual.

Compression test with either the carbs off, or throttle held wide open AND the vacuum slides held open with a paper clip or suchlike. Do it any other way and you will get false readings

Yeah I did it that way. Throttle wide open and slides held back. I got the cams out today just waiting on my shim kit to get in. I will re shim them then check compression again

It's too bad you ordered the shim kit already. Usually can swap shims to the point you only need to get two or three.

Yeah none of my local shops will let me swap shims. They want 10$ a peice and all of my valves r super tight due to lack of maintenence from the PO. That's all I've fixed and had probs with for the last year. The kit was 60$. No brainier as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for ur advice though. We're I'd a good place to get a good Manuel?

A manual is available for free online. You just have to search carefully to find it. I have no idea what the best site is to download from.
