loose ignition connection

Post by chris-seed »

I think I have a loose wiring connection in the wire that runs from the ignition pack to the back of the bike. If I turn the ignition on I can wiggle the key forward and also move the wiring and the lights flicker. I can also shut the engine off by doing this. Not good! I found this out today when riding. As I went over a bump the bike jerked as the engine tried to shut off.
Any ideas how to get at the wiring to check the connection? I've spotted two flat blade screw driver headed bolts either side of the wire that runs into the ignition. I'm think I'll have to buy a soldering iron and get it all reconnected properly.

Thanks.
Chris.

All sorted now. It just turns out that the screws that hold the ignition pack together were loose and were causing the wiring plate to move around inside the ignition pack. I took the ignition pack apart, cleaned the connections inside it and put it back together. No it's all secure and not rattling around. Easy fix.
