Bike died on me during a ride, problems appear HELP PLEASE

Post by 703patrick »

Hi all

I was riding one day and came to a friends house to stop. I turned off my bike and went inside, when I come out the bike did not start anymore. I hear the solenoid buzzing but the bike does not attempt to crank. I noticed the Neutral light on the dash doesn't turn on anymore either. After this I had rolled started it and it cranked on like a charm. the neutral light still does not appear though so i didn't let it bother me and continue to go on a group ride. after 5 minutes of into the ride my bike completely died on me. I had it picked up in a truck and taken home..sad day.

I have tried all of the following:
Using a screwdriver to connect the solenoid ends together to start like that, doesn't work.
I have tried roll starting it again. DOES NOT WORK. I hear the pistons moving and bike attempting to start but it is very slow and doesn't cut on like a regular roll start would.
I have tried putting it into 2nd gear and roll starting it as well. does not work.
I have tried kickstand up, clutch in, kill switch on and off. to start it. doesn't work.
All my fuses are good and NOT blown.
high beams turn signals brake lights are good.
I have plenty of gas.

I was wondering if this was a common problem with anyone's elses bike and if anyone has a solution?
If there is a successful thread already can you please redirect me?

Thank you. I look forward to hearing all the advices and hope to get the fizzer started again. I miss the 2 wheel life.
PS. bike is a 1996 YAMAHA FZR 600

What state is your battery in? Fluid levels, terminal screws, voltage across the terminals, cleanliness?

Voltage regulator/rectifier...? I had a similar problem on my 96 600. Couldn't start it, replace the VR and it fired right up. I think there are a few ways to check it's condition. I could be wrong, but I would def check that.

Other common electrical failures on these bikes in addition to what Don and LuckyStriker86 have already suggested are fouled or corroded run/off switch and side stand switch. But verify your 's battery's health as Don suggested and then work from there. I would suggest if you've already done so to download the wiring diagram so that you can start tracing down wires and either eliminating them from equation or adding them to the possible issues list.
