Fzr common performance modifications?
I have a 97 fzr600 im looking to make it a street monster. I have a yoshi slip-on, k&n, jetted. Im looking to change the sprockets. Any other things i can do to make it a beast?

Buy an R1.
But seriously, it's all about the girth of your wallet. You need to make the motor breath. You are close to maximum respiration with a K&N and a slip-on. But for maximum air movement you need a full aftermarket exhaust and then jetting to match. A 660 project will increase your displacement but is a fair amount of work. But one of the best dollar for dollar improvements is a 520 chain and sprocket swap to shed some unsprung weight. Not much you can do with these naturally aspirated mills but they are still capable canyon carvers. Upgrades you need to be considering, in my opinion, are all suspension related. New fork springs at the right rate for you, emulator valves for your front fork, an R6 rear shock but before all that a 17" rear wheel and swing arm (YZF 600R probably the easiest and most available State side) since 18" rear rubber is limited. All these are discussed at great length on here and in the Wiki. Welcome and enjoy!

Respectfully submit that front fork work comes before anything.
BTW, you said that changing out the sprockets/chain will yield decrease in unsprung weight....not sure if it will make enough of a difference. Please school me!

The 'unsprung' weight of 530 vs 520 isn't terribly significant, true; I would suggest however the reduction in ROTATING weight will make a noticeable difference in response (WFO) and smoothness (trickling along in a parking lot).

hi,
as been said here already the front fork upgrade with prpoer springs and emulators is the VERY best value for money I ever spent.(see my FZR project on my web site)
If you do decide on removing the air box then you must space the new air filter pods off the carb mouth the same distance as the air box was away from the bell mouth of the carb
Tuned exhaust are fine but most people forget there is a tuned air inlet length too.!!!
there are other carb mods but they are not for the faint hearted as they require very accurate work and a VERY strict attention to detail
for better gas control you might want to look at your carbs emulsion tubes as after 20 od years they do wear and cause incorrect gas metering as the round needle hole goes oval.
STIG a member here and on the UK 1K fzr site had a supplier of aftermarket emulsion tubes.
