FZR 600-Suddenly wont start-video?

Hi, just got my first "larger" bike and its FZR 600 1992. Got it for pretty cheap (In Finnish prices..).

So here's few questions about the bike:
Whats the easiest&cheapest way to swap rear wheel to 17"? Gixxer wheel?
Does Dynojet add power? Is it like "bolt on" or do i have to find correct tune.
What should i do for the bike that is fully stock? Like to get some power or other tips?
Where to by parts for good price? And is it possible to by bolt on belly pans and so on for these?

Did someone retro a projector beam headlight in the mono-light fairing? Someone has already fitted the YZF mirror over the stock FZR ones (good move), front and rear turn indicators are aftermarket again those are fine but consider the Canadian FZR 400's fronts as they are a flush mount direct bolt-on from someone like Flanders. But man you have a really clean bike there.

Depending upon what is available in your part of the world the old gixer wheels are becoming hard to come by. A 17" rear wheel that is more readily available is the YZF 600 swing arm and rear wheel combination. But in the end just about anyting within reason can be made to fit. Check out the WIKI above as there is a how-to from MrFreeze on the YZF swingarm rear wheel swap.

Any jetting kit will require tuning, Dynojet or otherwise. To get the full advantage out of a jet kit you will need a full aftermarket exhaust and possibly an air box mod or intake filter change. If you are looking for more power there are not a lot of options for this vintage of motor. Seach for "660" as some have fitted I think YZF cylinders to the FZR mill and picked up a few ponies there. But honestly I would just ride your bike. When you have outgrown the limited horsepower production just upgade to something with more power.

In the off season the first thing I would do is check/change the voltage regulator to the +'95 style voltage regulator/R6. If that component fails it can take out a lot of other componets. Search CPR for the FZR in the WIKI above. I would then work on the front brakes. Find a pair of used YZF 600 blue dots, new stainless steel lines, EBC HH pads and nice radial master cylinder. Next I would respring the front forks for your weight, with new emulator cartridges from someone like Racetech. And lastly I would find a more modern rear shock again like the R6 which is a drop in. Tons of info on these mods on this site. Obviously none of thes mods will make more horsepower but they will increase the smiles per mile atop the FZR.

What M in KC said. Also, the safest way to go faster is with a good suspension. Look into new springs and possibly emulators for the front (or even a front end swap) and a better rear shock. Then get it set up for your weight and riding style.

Thanks for all tips:) But first problems came already today... I bought the bike about week and a half ago. It has worked like a dream but suddenly yesterday i forgot to add fuel and and i ran out of it. First it was running only with choke and without choke it started to backfire. Today i remembered that fuel tank is probably empty and it was..

I added fuel (about 6litres) and it didnt even start? I tried with car battery and with choke the sound was like it was almost starting, few times it was almost running but no.
Still backfires too..

Where should i start looking for the problem?

Every time i ran into a bike that backfires it needed a set of plugs. Try that it should help.

Hmm well have to try that. But why all four plugs would brake at the same time?

they want break they are more than likely fouled. this happens when too much gas is entering the combustion chambers. in result it gums up the plugs. this probably happen when you ran the bike with the choke on. the choke opens more circuits to allow more fuel to the carbs.

Hmm okay, today i changed plugs but i was unable to try starting because the battery was almost empty. Let it charge over night and gotta try tomorrow.

Plug gave little spark but kinda bad. It was pretty wet by gasoline too. I have a bad feeling that changing plugs wont help:/ Well see about that tomorrow..
Does anyone have anything to say about the plug?

one word........ FOULED. But seriously though. if all plugs look like that then that is more than likely the problem. that looks bad. check to make sure your fuel pump is priming. and make sure the battery is fully charged. the its wet is because it is burning rich (too much fuel is entering the combustion chamber, more than likely from running it with the choke on)

I agree that is a fouled plug if I've ever seen one. The plugs aren't broken but all that unburnt fuel is killing your spark. That spark can't jump the gap with that gunk in between the gap.

Well now plugs are changed, battery is fully charged and i even bought CRC Motor starter and tried that. Didn't help... It makes sound like "pht pht pht pfht pfht". Sounds like its almost starting but no no no.. and then backfires and more backfires. Ain't sure but maybe sounded little bit like only two cylinders had spark, but not sure at all..

It promises with starter fluid and like 1/5 turn of throttle but nothing else and then came backfire again.. Agghrr i am going to sell all my motor operated vehicles and buy a good bicycle.

Well, what now? Where should i start looking for the problem?...

check your fuel pump. make sure its working. and do you have the air box on or off?

Hmm i think fuel pump is working because it makes that sound. And when petcock is off fuel pump makes that noise about 5 seconds. When its on it stops after few seconds when it fills carbs?

And also air filters are changed to "power filter" or what they are called. Dont know is that good or a bad thing But they are on, i tried spraying CRC to the air filters and directly to the carbs intake. Same effect on both. Little "pfht pfht pfht pfht" sound like almost starting but no..

OK fuel pump is good. those are pod filters. they are good if you plan on redlining all the time. I would take the carbs off and check the carbs t make sure they are clean.
