The grip from higher quality, modern tires is amazing. After dropping my GSXR down to the ground, going through a corner way too fast - my knee was between the gas tank and the ground - my bike came back upright maintaining grip.

Your real concern should be road conditions. Loose gravel is everyone's enemy. Cold tires on wet roads can easily spell disaster.
When you think your bike and its tires are at its limit, have a local racer take it out and prove you wrong.
