Hi, thanks.

I also found nothing this involved when planning my build, here are some pics of how the tank is coming along.

I went & looked at a couple of my Bikes & they all have the type of Shocks that have a rounded end, or eye, on each end. Just like is at the top of your Shocks. There is a large enough washer behind the nut that I cant tell if there is a rubber bushing in the lower one or not. I'm willing to bet that there is though. I think if I was you... I would find 4 nylon washers (2 per shock) and place the nylon washer between your Swingarm Mount and the Shock Mount on both sides, then run the bolt through. The nylon washer will make a nice surface for your Shock to pivot on instead of steel to steel.

Are the Shocks that you are using for mock-up the ones you plan to use? Is that lower Shock Mount common in your area? None of the Shocks on my Bikes have that type of lower end mount. I'd hate to see you limit your replacement Shock selection due to having that type of mounting vs. a round end on both ends.

WOW!!! :notworthy: Very cool looking tank!

I wish I had your fabrication skills. I have to make things out of paper, cardboard or wood, then hand it off to someone else to do in whatever metal is required.

Hi, I went with those shocks because they are longer than others I found, they are for a cb900, its not a common method but they are readily available. All the standard type with eyes at both ends are only around 300mm long and yes I think they have bushes at both ends, these are 365mm long. I needed them longer to create the right look I wanted, a flat frame to allow me to make the tank I wanted, if i set it any lower it would have made the tank more angled, hopefully the sketch below explains this.

I also found the drawing for the cb900 swingarm so I can change it later before paint if needs be by welding a sleeve into the mount to allow me to fit a rubber bush.

I think as long as the top of the Shock is bushed is all that really matters. There shouldn't be much twist in that beefy swingarm. The bottom end just needs to pivot easily/smoothly.

Hi guys,

Just an update, been busy for a few days so not had any time to work on the bike, will have to leave it again for a few days but heres some pics of the tank at the moment. Still need fully welding, and the rebate in the bottom for the air filters to sit under fitting, then a filler neck and cap.

I think you are making great progress. My build is being hijacked by a small wheel spacer of all things. banghead I sure wish that I had a lathe right now.

Keep up the good work.

Sorry I cant help with your spacer probs, I dont have access to a lathe either.

Started work on the seat pan and rear pod which will eventually house the stop tail light, here are some pics of the pod the seat pan is next.

Heres the beginings of the seat pan, this is welded to the pod and the seat will bolt on top, this part will be painted.
