I finally got my FZR running. However, starting requires lots of throttle (typically holding it to the stop), and the bike will start by firing on 2, 3, and then finally all 4 cylinders. If I stop revving it periodically after start, it will drop down to 3 cylinders and then stall out shortly thereafter. The choke seems to have much less of an impact on starting behaviour, or on after start RPMs, then I remember from my last FZR. Am I correct that these symptoms are indicative of a rich running condition? It has been quite a while since I fooled around with FZR carburation. Relevant specs are as follows:
-Brand new CR9E plugs
-Hindle slipon on stock header
-K&N filter - freshly cleaned and very lightly oiled
-Stock starter and pilot jets
-Air screws set at 2 turns out
-float height at 24mm
-Factory Pro (I belive – they have 7 positions) needles on the 3rd clip from the top
-emulsion tubes look good (no visible oval forming), but are of a somewhat unusual type. Please see the below pic:
Could these emulsion tubes be allowing too much additional fuel on start up?
