Gear Drive Speedo
I am looking to put a single round speedo gauge on my bike. I have one off from a Honda Rebel that has the dummy lights built into it. The gear drive cable fits on the gauge but will it work properly. I have looked at the new digital gauges but this is not really what I want. I want an older school big single gauge look with the dummy lights. If this one will not work what do I need to look for to get the correct one. I will be going to a huge swap meet in about a month or so and can get anything I want there. Can't test out the Honda gauge because it is 4 degrees out. BRRRR

Re: Gear Drive Speedo
The gear ratios used by the Japanese OEMs were pretty similar; if the drive cable fits the gauge, it *should* work.

Re: Gear Drive Speedo
It is supposed to warm up next week. I am going to plug it in and see what I got. I will let everyone know if it works or not.

Re: Gear Drive Speedo
This is apparently a complex subject to figured out. First off my wife won't let me steal her speedo apparently she needs one for something? What ratio is a stock Yamaha speedo? Is it 2:1? I found an aftermarket gauge that I want and would look good but nobody will tell me if it will work or not.

Re: Gear Drive Speedo
In case anyone else is wondering about this I discovered it is a 2:1 ratio. If you un-hook your speedo cable and roll your front tire (lifted off the ground is easier) and count the number of cable revolutions compared to the tire revolutions you get your ratio.
