fork and brake questions

2 different problem.trying to figure out whats the most cost effective for me.bike sat for a while so i dont wanna blow my budget on upgrades just to find it needs other stuff.i know for a fact my front forks leak and my right front cailper needs a rebuild

with the forks whats including in a normal rebuild parts list.looking off of yamaha website i think i need the ones with the star next to it because im leaking out by the dust boot

4 drain plug seal(gonna assume rubber washer.prob dont need it right)
*6 oil seal
*dust seal
*9 washer/oil seal(gonna guess and these are my issue and why mine are leaking?)
14 gasket
17 gasket

next issue leaky forks cause caliper to go bad(i think that was the root cause) in any case front right caliper is forsure seized and needs a rebuild..or a swap

i was looking really at 3 options

blue dot r6 swap costs a little over 100 normally for everything

but from what i have read the stock brakes are pretty awsum and the only real "upgrade" is the master.but what makes it any better?better feel?sizing more proper so less likely to lock up brakes?do tell

other option is the r1 gold calipers.not sure of pricing.but i read it was a direct bolt on.are these any better than stock brakes?

last option rebuild and replace kinda expensive..rebuild kits alone are 30 a peice and i would prob get stainless lines to be safe.

but ya the bikes old.stuffs old.rather swap it with newer more common technology but its not the end of the world if i have to keep everything fzr

First my questions before I advise:

How bad is the front fork leaking?

Do the current brake pads in the front brakes need replacing?

Have you ever worked on motorcycle forks or rebuilt a caliper or master cylinder?

While you answer Pefrey's questions I'll toss some things at you.

Master cylinder is the "upgrade". However, good pads with fresh fluid in the lines with the stock setup works really well too. Unless you were doing racing OR you wanted the bling factor of the gold spots they are not needed. Are they better? Slightly. The pistons have a teflon coating that allows them to move just a bit quicker than the blue spots or silver sports. If you're just riding the bike for the enjoyment then blue (or silver or the gold calipers from the 94-95 Foxeye YZFs) are fine. I've heard the blue spots, etc weigh a little less but I was not able to tell when I had both sets in my hands.

As far as getting the newer calipers that I'll leave to you-it's your bike. As far as getting a replacement caliper then you might want to look around through some of the for sale threads as you might catch a deal.

Now the fork seals. If you have never done them before look over this document (http://fzronline.com/wiki/doku.php?id=f ... eplacement <-click there) before tackling it .

Actually sweekster pretty much summed it up. For the forks I'd just replace the seals and dust seals. Brakes I'd get blue dots with lines, master, and lever and call it done.
