fairing stay

Post by buzzawak »

I have had my fzr now for about 3 years and as time and money is available have been fixing her up.
It has always been bit of a struggle putting the fairing back on after some work on the engine.
Bolts just don't line up perfectly so I recon the stay is a bit out of whack.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks on measuring the stay to check if its straight?

It's not uncommon for stuff to be a little off, especially if you are using aftermarket bodywork. It also depends on the aftermarket brand as some fit better than others.

I don't know how to check the stay, but you might try something like this:

Put your key in the gas cap and tie string around it (a type that does not stretch) and check the distance from there to each ear of your stay. It should be the same or close.

Then run the string from your gas cap, across the steering stem, and out the front of the bike. The front of the stay should be centered on the string.
