More electrical problems

Post by Harrysf707 »

Hey guys,

So, I got my wheels on and am in the final process of sanding down my fairings/fixing up cracks and whatnot before I paint. I just wanted to see if the bike would still turn over, so I reassembled everything and hit the start button, it ran the first time without any problems (This was Sunday). Now I just wanted to see if it would run again, so I put the keys in, toggle the red switch to the "run" position and hit the start button. Well, now all I hear is a loud click and everything electronic dies. My lights go off, gauge lights go off, brake lights, turn signals, horns, ect... banghead

Now, if I wait for 30 seconds, take the keys out and put them back in all the lights, fuel pump ect. starts working again. But, every time I hit the start button it just dies again...
Whats going on and how do I fix this?
-Thanks

Battery sounds dead to me, check the fluid level too.

It's a new battery. I've checked the fluid levels and they're at or about near the line and the battery reads 12.71 volts.

Check the battery terminals for security and condition. The same thing happened with a van I had when the +ve clamp loosened off.

I bought a battery new and it would not work under a load. If your connections are good, see if a local parts store can do a load test on a motorcycle battery. Definitely check and clean your connections first. Sweet, you'll get it figured out. One step at time :)

Yes! That's exactly what was wrong. The Phillips screw that was attaching the +ve terminal to the battery was stripped and was barely holding it together. After I replaced the screw, the engine started right up! Thanks! I didn't even think to check there.

Cool, so glad you got it figured out. Sometimes the simplest things give us the most difficulty. :)
