how many rpms before you shift gears?

im confused on when i should shift gears in my 95 yamaha fzr. when should i shift from first to second, and second and third, so on and so forth, etc?

It depends on where and how you're riding. Just puddling around town on a cracked throttle you might shift at 7 or 8k. If you're absolutely caning it you want to shift closer to 11k. It also depends on your mood - I've trickled through slow traffic in first while turning over 17k, just to watch the heads snap around looking for this unholy SHRIEK!

Just shift some time before the red bar. Jk. Seriously though just like Don said just shift when you want as a general rule of thumb keep it above 3k.

If I'm slowly accelerating through town I change around 3,500. Pulling out of side road 5,000 If I'm on an on ramp 7 to 8 thousand if I'm running hard 11,500 to 12,000.

Yeah I mean I usually shift at like 4k around, just riding around
